In the first semester of the 2023/2024 academic year, the teachers of the Department of Philology and Translation, the Institute of Law and Modern Technologies, organised a number of activities to improve the foreign applicants’ adaptation process at the university.

The academic staff – Professor Ivan Dzyra, Associate Professor Oleksandr Muntian and Associate Professor Svitlana Dvorianchykova – engaged foreign applicants in mastering Ukrainian as a foreign language in classroom and online formats.

The teachers were especially pleased with the sincere interest of students from the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Ukrainian history and culture. The young applicants acquired basic knowledge of the Ukrainian language system, learned to read, write and communicate in Ukrainian. The education applicants listened to Ukrainian songs, read adapted fragments of works by Ukrainian writers, and discussed Ukrainian feature films. The international students were active participants in the meetings of the scientific club “Mastering Ukrainian: Countries and People” (headed by Svitlana Dvorianchykova, Associate Professor at the Department of Philology and Translation), improving their communication skills and learning interesting facts about Ukraine, Ukrainians and the Ukrainian language. And of course, our international students follow the news about Ukraine, support our homeland and wish Ukrainian people victory and peace.

At the initiative of their mentors, the first-year Ukrainian education applicants studying under the Ukrainian Language and Literature and English Philological Studies programme attended practical classes in Ukrainian as a foreign language and meetings of the scientific club: they watched the joint work of teachers and foreign students, got acquainted with the methods of teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language, prepared assignments and texts, and exchanged friendly smiles with students from other countries. The teachers were excited to see the first steps of future teachers into the profession. Our applicants will use the accumulated material during their practical training to write abstracts for the upcoming national and international conferences “Innovative Trends of Training Specialists in the Conditions of a Polycultural and Multilingual Globalized World”, and “Dialogue of Cultures in the European Education Space”.
