As part of the Biotechnology educational program, Professor Tetiana Shcherbatiuk conducted a tour for 3rd-year students to the National Cancer Institute.
The Laboratory of Molecular Genetic Diagnostics was established in 2009 at the premises of the Research Laboratory of Experimental Oncology. The head of this laboratory, Natalia Khranovska, PhD, delivered an engaging lecture to the students on the application of molecular genetics and molecular cytogenetic studies in diagnosing, prognosticating, and determining treatment strategies for malignant tumors of children and adults. She also discussed the identification of molecular genetic markers of tumor sensitivity to targeted and chemotherapeutic drugs, and the immunological evaluation of the efficacy of dendritic cell-based immunotherapy.
Naturally, the students were interested in meeting the young staff of the laboratory, who masterfully work with the most modern equipment. The laboratory not only provides diagnostic assistance in accordance with international standards, but also conducts research on the antitumor, antimetastatic, and immunomodulatory properties of novel antitumor and immunomodulatory drugs by employing models and techniques of experimental oncology.
The tour provided the students with an opportunity to better understand the work of the laboratory and its contribution to the fight against cancer.
