OPENING OF A NEWLY UPDATED EDUCATIONAL AND RESEARCH LABORATORY "LEATHER AND FUR EXPERTISE"

On 11 March 2024, a solemn event took place in the life of the University – the official opening of the updated educational and research laboratory "Leather and Fur Expertise" by Rector Ivan Gryshchenko.  The laboratory’s scientific director is Olha Andreieva, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Biotechnology, Leather and Fur awarded with “Excellence in Education of Ukraine”. The laboratory was reconstructed and provided with modern laboratory furniture, equipment and facilities thanks to the support of the University management and sponsorship.

 

In his opening speech, Ivan Mykhailovych noted the contribution of the staff of the Department of Biotechnology, Leather and Fur to strengthening the material and technical base of the University, which contributes to the acquisition of new research achievements and their implementation in the process of training specialists of the modern European level.

The activities of the laboratory are related to the educational process, practical training of students, research and technical services commissioned by industry enterprises, trading companies, various institutions and organisations. The equipment of the educational and research laboratory makes it possible to: assess the quality and carry out identification examination of leather, fur and products made of them; study the chemical composition, physical, mechanical and hygienic properties of natural leather and fur; analyse the protein composition and structural characteristics of leather and fur materials; develop functional materials, low-waste and environmentally friendly technologies for the production of leather for various purposes.
