EDUCATIONAL PRACTICE OF 1ST-YEAR STUDENTS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ART AND FASHION DESIGN

1st-year students of the Department of Art and Fashion Design underwent training in the outstanding historical and cultural places of our capital. Throughout February-March 2024, following the curriculum of the educational program “Fashion Design” under the supervision of Iryna Chubotina, senior teacher, Doctor of Philosophy, 1st-year students had the opportunity to implement practical and theoretical knowledge and skills in the courses taught and prepare for independent activities by the specialty, selecting materials for further creative work.

One of the objects of visit was the National Museum of the History of Ukraine – a leading historical museum, which is the largest museum in the country in terms of the number of exhibits (800,000). Students had the opportunity to visit several exhibitions presented in this outstanding institution: “Church of the Dormition of the Virgin: architectural and artistic image”, “Flags of Independence”, “Only the sabre will give us the right!”, “Serhiy Yermakov. Phenomenon of the Ukrainian couturier”, and others. All the exhibitions were informative and instructive, and each in its own way was useful for future fashion designers. During the visit, the students made sketches, and the creativity continued en plein air.

The collection of the National Science and Natural History Museum of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, one of the largest natural science museums in the world and the largest natural science museum in Ukraine, aroused the students’ a lot of interest. The students had an opportunity to get acquainted with the amazing world of minerals and rocks in the Geological Department of the Museum, looking at the exhibits of the Paleontological Department and ancient pages of the history of the Earth, as well as the exhibits of the Zoological and Botanical Departments, where the diversity of flora and fauna not only of Ukraine, but also of different corners of the planet was presented. Special attention was drawn to the artistic design of the Museum’s expositions, because the works of world-famous Ukrainian artists Ivan Yizhakevych, Fedir Krychevskyi, Hennadyi Glikman and other talented artists are presented here.

Also, the students visited the renovated Kyiv Zoological Park where they made quick sketches and photographed animals for further life-size sketches and project development.

During the practice, the students received vivid emotions and positive experience of outdoor work, which is especially important for further professional activities in art and fashion design.
