On March 15, 2024, the event of national and patriotic education «The round-table  discussion “Taras Shevchenko is the symbol of Ukraine”» was held by the scientific and pedagogical staff of the Department of Philology and Translation (the Institute of Law and Modern Technologies), for applicants of Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design in the conference hall (building 1, auditorium 1-0130).

This year, Ukrainian people celebrate the 210th anniversary of Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko’s birthday. The Director of the Institute of Law and Modern Technologies Tetiana Vlasiuk and the event organizers, Head of the Department of Philology and Translation Yelyzaveta Isakova, Professor of the Department Olena Yufereva, Professor of the Department Ivan Dzyra, Associate Professor of the Department Svitlana Dvorianchykova, Senior Lecturer of the Department and curator of the groups BAM-23 and BVU-23 Liudmyla Roienko, reminded those present that Kobzar bequeathed us to protect Ukraine, cherish our native language, respect the people and remember our history.

Students and teachers were delighted to learn the information about Taras Shevchenko, that was prepared and presented by the Professor of the Department of Philology and Translation Olena Yufereva. The mini-lecture, entitled “Taras Shevchenko FOREVER: media, street art, memes, animation, music, theater”, encouraged those present to think and have a lively discussion. The person of Taras Shevchenko was analysed not only as a genius, an artist, a culture bearer, but also as a living person whose thoughts and aspirations are understandable and resonant to his compatriots even now.

The applicant Oleksandra Shevtsova (BVU-23 group, educational programme “The Ukrainian language and literature and English philological studies”, the Department of Philology and Translation), in the essay “Taras Shevchenko is not an old man in a sheepskin coat” (scientific supervisor – Svitlana Dvorianchykova) presented her creative vision of the Kobzar’ character. The student insisted on the necessity to modernize the approaches to the study of the Ukrainian Prophet’s legacy and the presentation of information about the poet, at general secondary education institutions in particular.

The quiz “Do we know Taras Shevchenko?”, prepared for KNUTD students by the teachers of the Department of Philology and Translation Ivan Dzyra and Svitlana Dvorianchykova, captivated the students with excitement. The participants of all three teams, “Kobzari”, “My thoughts” and “Shevchenko’s moustache”, showed considerable knowledge of Taras Shevchenko’s biography and works and received memorable diplomas of appreciation.

Taras Shevchenko is the symbol of Ukrainian national identity and spirituality, the words of the poet are true for all of us even today.
