The University has resumed cooperation, which was launched in 2015 and interrupted due to the COVID times and Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, with its business partner, the sewing company Flaxpol (Kluczbork, Poland). From 12 February to 9 March 2024, the students of the Department of Fashion and Style, specialty 182 Technology of Light Industry Products, successfully completed their practical training at the sewing company:
- second (master’s) level of the educational program “Modelling, Design and Artistic Decoration of Light Industry Products” – Alina Sobylska, Alina Kichuk;
- first (bachelor’s) level of the educational program “Design and Technology of Garments” – Karina Arendar.
The company manufactures protective clothing, including anti-electrostatic, fire, and acid protection. The company’s products are certified and the ISO 9001 quality management system has been implemented.
In the first days of the practical training, the company’s representatives gave the students a meaningful, instructive tour of the factory and showed them all the departments. The trainee students got acquainted with the production process, the sewing company’s workshops, and a variety of modern equipment.
The structure of Flaxpol, which is dynamically developing and implementing modern technologies, includes experimental, preparatory, sewing, and finished goods departments. The use of OptiTex software and the Hermes internal system significantly improves the quality of the experimental workshop’s work by automating product design processes. This shop employs designers, technologists, layout designers, garment and embroidery designers, whose workplaces are automated through the introduction of CAD.
The cutting department has also implemented CAD and uses semi-automatic flooring and cutting complexes, while the sewing department uses semi-automatic machines for making slit pockets, straps, etc.
When placing orders, the company provides professional advice to customers on the selection of a package of materials and fittings with specified characteristics by the purpose of the products. In addition to working with customers, the company also creates collections that can be purchased on the official Flaxpol website.
During the practical training, each student of the University made a product, having gone through all the stages of design, from the development of a sketch to the product sewing in the workshop, which made it possible to deepen and consolidate the theoretical knowledge and practical skills acquired during the study of the educational components of the programme in the design and technology of garments, design and technological preparation of production and computer-aided product design.
The students of the Department of Fashion and Style gratefully and warmly recall the friendly attitude of the head of the Design and Technology Bureau, Tomys Julia, and other employees who met the trainees and shared their professional experience, knowledge, and skills for the needs of the fashion industry.
