CHEMICAL EDUCATION FOR THE UKRAINE CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE SECURITY AND RESILIENCE

From March 11 to 14, 2024, the international workshop “DEVELOPMENT OF UNIVERSITY PROGRAMS ON CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE SECURITY AND RESILIENCE” under the project "Critical chemical-related infrastructure protection of Ukraine from ongoing Russian aggression" was held in Lecce (Italy) with the participation of employees of the Faculty of Chemical and Biopharmaceutical Technologies of KNUTD Viktoriia PLAVAN, head of the Department of Chemical Technologies and Resource Saving, and Volodymyr KHOMENKO, Professor of the same Department.

The workshop was held with the support of the Office of Threat Reduction of the Bureau of International Security and Non-Proliferation, the US State Department, the US Civilian Research and Development Foundation (CRDF Global), with the assistance of the Critical Infrastructure Security Service of the Apparatus of National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and with the participation of experts from the US, the EU, Canada, Nigeria, as well as the Italian University of Salento.

The invitation of KNUTD researchers and lecturers to participate in such an important event is unconditional proof of KNUTD's vanguard role in training specialists of various profiles for the chemical industry of Ukraine, in particular for the protection of its critical infrastructure.

The participants of the workshop were introduced to the knowledge and best practices regarding the protection of critical infrastructure related to chemical safety, conducting vulnerability assessments of facilities, as well as educational programs on Ukraine critical infrastructure security and resilience with the goal of fortifying Ukraine`s critical infrastructure with a robust sustainable development in the context of post-war recovery.

The knowledge gained will certainly be useful in the implementation of the educational program “Environmental Engineering” in the specialty 183 Environmental Protection Technologies.
