On 3 April 2024, within the framework of the KNUTD Design Week, an online lecture titled "Development of Clothing Collections: Stages, Sources of Inspiration, Design Practices of World Fashion Houses" was held by Kalyna Pashkevych, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, and Dean of the Faculty of Design.
The lecture was attended by the students and teachers of the Faculty of Design, the Faculty of Arts and Fashion of KNUTD, as well as students and colleagues from various universities in Ukraine, Moldova, and the Czech Republic.
The lecturer spoke about the stages of developing clothing collections, the means of harmonising collections, their types, various creative sources, and ways of transforming them into costume forms. Among the stages of creating collections: formulation of the design task; formation of the design concept of the collection; creation of the design project of the collection, special attention was paid to the conceptual aspects of developing modern collections and studying fashion trends.
Using specific examples of the work of KNUTD students and the work of famous Ukrainian and world designers, the lecturer showed options for transforming architectural objects, elements of the built environment; bionic objects (flora and fauna); innovative materials, etc. into creative ideas for developing clothing models of various assortments and purposes.
At the end of the lecture, attention was paid to the technologies of creating decorative clothing trims in the collections of world-famous fashion houses such as DIOR, Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel, etc., as this experience is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for the development of modern collections. More information can be found in the monograph "Decorative Embellishments in Fashion Design of the XX-XXI Centuries".
