LECTURE BY PROFESSOR LUIGI FIUMARA AS PART OF DESIGN WEEK AT KNUTD

On April 1, 2024, a lecture by invited professor and architect Luigi Fiumara (Italy-Switzerland) on “Organic Interior Design: Contemporary Practices” was held as part of Design Week at KNUTD.

Luigi Fiumara, an Italian architect and member of the Swiss Association of Engineers and Architects, briefly outlined the fundamental principles of organic environmental design as a contemporary direction in architecture and design. This approach seeks to balance two unilateral tendencies – simplification and geometrization on one hand, and arbitrary form creation on the other – based on a deep analysis of human needs. The lecturer illustrated this idea by analyzing examples of contemporary organic design practices, including the building of the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington and the new Munich International Community Church.

Professor Fiumara also provided examples of his projects implemented in recent years, such as an extension to a Waldorf School in Bochum (Germany), the reconstruction of an industrial building into a school in Verona (Italy), and private residential houses.

The lecture was attended by the teachers and students from all the departments of the Faculty of Design at KNUTD. The lecture generated significant interest among the audience. After the lecture, an informal discussion between the lecturer and the attendees continued regarding the contemporary and future trends in architecture, design, and monumental art in interiors.
