Schoolchildren of the specialized school No. 89 of the Pechersk district in Kyiv took part in the events of the “Week of Electrical and Computer Engineering” at KNUTD.
The event was organized with the assistance of Olena Saratova, the school director, and Guzel Abdullina, the deputy director for educational work. The schoolchildren were accompanied by class teachers: Olga Chernyshenko, Oleksandr Pashkevich, Natalya Shcherbak, Tetyana Kodenko.
On April 16, a round table “Modern trends of energy saving in the conditions of the green transition”, attended by the schoolchildren of the 10-A and 10-B grades of the school, was held. The event took place in the training and research laboratory “Energy Efficiency Center”.
Ihor Panasiuk, director of the Institute of Engineering and Information Technologies (IEIT) of KNUTD addressed the participants of the round table with a welcome speech. He spoke about the University, the specialties taught and the “Energy Efficiency Center”.
The event was moderated by Iryna Shvedchikova, professor of the Department of Computer Engineering and Electromechanics. She noted that the green transition requires young people to master a special set of abilities and skills that must be acquired in the process of education. To promote the green transition, lifelong learning and continuing education are becoming important.
During communication with the schoolchildren, Professor Shvedchikova focused on energy saving trends. It was also noted that in our country the problem of energy saving is gaining special relevance due to enemy attacks on the energy infrastructure. In recent weeks alone, Ukraine has lost up to 70% of heat generation and 50% of hydro generation. The presentation was accompanied by interesting examples of the implementation of energy-saving measures in different countries of the world, and caused a lively discussion and questions from the schoolchildren.
At the end of the event, the schoolchildren got acquainted with demonstration samples of energy-saving equipment in the “Energy Efficiency Center”. They showed a special interest in the functioning of the ventilation system with recuperation and the construction of a solar power plant, saw the educational stand for researching the energy-saving properties of various types of lamps.
On April 17, a masterclass on microcontroller programming was held with the participation of the schoolchildren of 9-A, 9-B and 9-D grades. The event was moderated by Dmytro Statsenko, head of the Department of Computer Engineering and Electromechanics. During the event, the schoolchildren were presented with the stands for acquiring practical skills in building circuits based on the Arduino hardware computing platform, the main components of which are a microcontroller board with input/output elements and a development environment. The programming language for Arduino devices is based on C, which is easy to learn.
The master class participants learnt how to design circuits, create and write programmes, and use a serial connection to a computer to control the lighting elements connected to the stands. A stand was presented to study the operation of sound and light indication depending on signals coming from external infrared sensors. The control programmes for the above stands were also shown and explained.
We hope to see today’s schoolchildren as students of Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design.
We are grateful to the administration of the specialized school No. 89 of the I-III degrees of the Pechersk district of Kyiv for their assistance in organizing the meeting.
