On April 26, 2024, a lecture was held for students of the Institute of Engineering and Information Technology majoring in 123 "Computer Engineering", 124 "System Analysis" and 141 "Electric Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electromechanics" on the topic “Digital accessibility. What is it and why is it necessary?” The lecture was conducted by Kateryna Shepeleva, head of the accessibility testing department of EPAM Systems, and Ihor Protsiuk, digital accessibility engineer of EPAM Systems.
The purpose of the lecture was to introduce the participants to digital accessibility using the example of web applications and to discuss why it is important. Representatives of EPAM Systems noted that digital accessibility is equally important for people with disabilities and for all other people, depending on external circumstances.
It is noted that in 2020, 2.7 million people with disabilities were registered in Ukraine, the number of which is increasing day by day, and the state is involved in supporting such people. Thus, on June 12, 2019, Resolution No. 493 of the CMU "On Amendments to Certain Resolutions of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Regarding the Functioning of Official Websites of Executive Power Bodies" was approved, which obliged to ensure digital accessibility of state websites.
The representatives of EPAM Systems told the students what software and engineering solutions the campaign offers to ensure digital accessibility, and also answered questions about what skills, knowledge and abilities are necessary for future specialists. Students passed an express test on assimilation of the information they heard. The best students received valuable gifts from EPAM Systems.
