Choosing a profession is one of the main life moments that a person makes at a young age. This determines one’s entire future life path and is of great importance to society. Vocational guidance work is one of the components that helps to make the right step in the direction of the future profession.
Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design is a well-known and powerful institution that has been training specialists for the light industry for more than ninety years. And again, the doors are open for future students of the University. On April 27, 2024, Open Doors Day was held at the Faculty of Arts and Fashion of KNUTD. The guests were warmly welcomed by the dean of the Faculty, Professor Natalia Ostapenko, head of the Department of Fashion Technology, Professor Olha Haranina, Associate Professor of the Department of Fashion and Style Halyna Tokar, Associate Professors Oksana Vodzinska, Tetiana Dzykovych and Victoria Kernesh of the Department of Fashion Technology, Associate Professor of the Department of Professional Education in Technology and Design Alla Kolodiazhna. The event took place in a hybrid format – online and offline.
On behalf of the Rector of the University, Dean Natalia Ostapenko gave a welcome speech to the future entrants and their parents and spoke about the educational programs for training students at the Faculty of Arts and Fashion in 2024 at the first (bachelor's) and second (master's) levels of higher education - "Design and technology of garments", "Modelling, design and artistic decoration of light industry products", "Fashion industry", "Professional education (Technology of light industry products)", "Psychology", "Social work". She emphasized the powerful personnel of the departments, among which a significant share is made up of practice-oriented teachers, the security environment created by the University for the possibility of training students under martial law; she named the accredited educational and professional programs of the Faculty. The guests at the meeting were given a handout with information about the departments and educational programs of the Faculty.
The report and presentation on the features of the entry company of 2024 was presented by the deputy dean for educational and scientific work, Associate Professor Oksana Vodzinska. She reported on the need for entrants to pass the national multi-subject test (NMT) when entering the first year of a bachelor's degree based on a complete secondary general education and when entering a shortened form of education based on the educational degree of a professional junior bachelor (or OKR "Junior Specialist") for full-time, part-time and remote forms (education under a state order or contract). The NMTs 2022 or 2023 and independent external evaluation 2021 are also relevant. It is emphasized that the minimum passing score for admission to state-ordered studies is 130 points.
Halyna Tokar, Associate Professor of the Department of Fashion and Style, spoke about the uniqueness of educational programs "Modeling, design and artistic decoration of light industry products " and "Design and technology of garments". She familiarized the audience with the main areas of activity of the Department of Fashion and Style, named outstanding graduates of the Department, emphasized the creative achievements of students, the opportunities for their participation in events of various levels of research and creative directions, the basis for the practical training of students, including abroad, opportunities academic mobility of education seekers, etc.
The head of the Department Olha Haranina said about the knowledge and skills that students acquire during their studies under the "Fashion Industry" educational program, the powerful material and technical base of the Department of Fashion Technology, the international competitions "Pecherski Kashtany" and "Digital Fashion", creative exhibitions of student works.
Alla Kolodiazhna, Associate Professor of the Department of Professional Education in Technologies and Design draw the attention to the educational programs "Professional education (Technology of light industry products)" and "Psychology". She emphasized broad employment opportunities for graduates of the Department, pointed out the advantages of training of higher education students in selected educational programs, the relevance of the profession of psychologist in our time, introduces the educational and professional program "Social Work".
In order to acquaint the entrants with the future specialties within the framework of the Open Doors Day, the teachers of the departments held master classes. Halyna Tokar, Associate Professor of the Department of Fashion and Style, skillfully demonstrated the process of modeling clothes on a mannequin by the method of needling.
Tetiana Dzykovych, Associate Professor of the Department of Fashion Technology, skillfully showed the process of making a knitted fabric on a manual flat knitting machine, and everyone who wanted could participate.
After the master classes, the teachers conducted tours and showed the University educational laboratories to the attendees.
