On April 27, 2024, the Department of Digital Art of the Institute of Culture and Creative Industries held an online master class on traditional Chinese painting in Xieyi technique for students majoring in Digital Art, Graphic Design, Fashion Design, Multimedia Design, Environmental Design, Fashion Industry, Computer Design in the Fashion Industry and all connoisseurs of fine arts. The meeting was organised and moderated by Olesia Rybchenko, Associate Professor of the Department of Digital Art.
For two hours, the artist Chi Shaoting gave a lecture and a detailed master class in the technique of traditional Chinese painting Xieyi, immersing everyone who joined, which is 110 people, in a creative atmosphere, perfectly combining the technological and methodological techniques of the technique itself with historical information about its origin and features on the example of famous Chinese artists.
The atmosphere of the event was very friendly and comfortable, as the students constantly consulted and demonstrated their achievements. The unique Chinese Xieyi technique undoubtedly captivated with its magic, facilitated by the more than 13 years of teaching experience of the artist Chi Shaoting.

Indeed, such events contribute to the powerful development of the future artist’s skills, and a comprehensive understanding of various artistic techniques will stimulate their creativity.
Work process of the lecture and master class
The process of communication and creative work in such a large audience of students, more than 110 people, including students and educational process participants from different institutes and faculties of KNUTD, facilitated acquaintance and communication among students, which expands the possibilities of collaboration in future projects.
Drawing with a famous artist opens the way for students’ creative fulfilment, revives their creative interest in the latest trends in art, and promotes the study of ancient artistic techniques and methods. That is why the creation of such events will always remain an important aspect of the process of educating and upbringing young people.

Traditional Chinese Xieyi painting, which can be interpreted as “transcribe the idea”, is a fascinating study not only of the technique itself but also of the philosophy of the Eastern art tradition, the collection of visual information, the process of learning methods and approaches in the visual arts and the effective improvement of creative skills.
