On May 7, 2024, the Department of Smart Economics organized the second in the spring semester public lecture by Professor Pawel Sliwinski, Head of the Department of International Finance at Poznan University of Economics and Business, one of the most prestigious universities in Poland. Along with his scientific activities, Professor Pawel Sliwinski also holds the position of president of INC financial and investment group (Poland).
The second lecture was a continuation of the lecture "Financing Innovations for Smart Economics: the Case Study of Movie Games Family", the first part of which was held in April.
Professor Sliwinski's lecture was devoted to the analysis of algorithms for attracting financing for business development and increasing the capitalization of enterprises with a significant innovative component, in particular startups. The first part of the lecture was devoted mainly to the theoretical component, while the second part analyzed the development of Movie Games, a Polish company, and its partner companies, which are among the most famous players in the national game development market.
Using practical examples, the Polish lecturer spoke about the advantages and disadvantages of using various tools for attracting external funding, in particular, through crowdfunding, business angels, as well as signing international agreements on the production of products/provision of services with well-known market players, etc. As an example, the dynamics of the business value (shares) of Movie Games, which has grown more than 140 times in less than 4 years since the company was founded, was given.
It changed as a result of correct moves in the process of finding sources of financing for innovative business, accompanied by the transformation of consumer and human capital into financial capital.
On May 14, 2024, students of the Department of Smart Economics and of other departments of the Faculty of Management and Business Design had the opportunity to meet Dr. John Stanton-Geddes, PhD, Postdoc, University of Minnesota. Dr. John Stanton-Geddes is a Global digital and marketing return analytics senior manager at HP (USA) and one of the most recognized data analysts in the USA.
His lecture titled "Measurement and evaluation of marketing in the digital era" gathered more than 60 listeners majoring in "Economics", "Management and Administration", "Finance, Banking, Insurance and Stock Market", "Management", "Marketing", "Entrepreneurship and trade".
During this lecture, the students were introduced to the problems of collecting and processing digital data for marketing purposes. The lecturer considered the differences between traditional and Bayesian models of statistical processing of information with focus on the possibilities and advantages of the latter in the conditions of the modern digital environment and the available opportunities for global big data analytics.
The students asked the lecturer a number of questions related to the features of automatic information collection in social networks.
The personnel of the Faculty of Business Design (the Department of Smart Economics in particular) and students express their gratitude to foreign lecturers for the new knowledge gained and familiarization with the features of scientific approaches at the best universities in the world!
