Scientific and pedagogical staff of the Department of Philology and Translation of KNUTD are implementing an international program of academic credit mobility for students of higher education at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design and Baku Slavic University. As part of the Ukrainian and English language practice: trip to Ukraine program, on May 20, 2024, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor, the Head of the Department of Philology and Translation of KNUTD Yelizaveta Isakova and PhD in Philology, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of Philology and Translation of KNUTD Svitlana Dvorianchykova gave an integrated lecture “Wedding traditions in Ukraine” in Ukrainian an English. The participants of the educational programs “Translation (Azerbaijani and Ukrainian languages)” and “Regional Studies (Ukraine)” of Baku Slavic University attended the event.

Yelizaveta Isakova and Svitlana Dvorianchykova began their lecture by inviting the students to investigate how Ukrainian traditional values and customs have been reincarnated in the present, as well as to find out whether Ukrainians managed to preserve the sacredness of the marriage process. The lecturers provided the community with general information in Ukrainian and English about the colorful ceremony of Ukrainian wedding and its main parts. The listeners found out that the ancient Ukrainian wedding ceremony consisted of four mandatory stages, namely: matchmaking, engagement, bachelorette party and wedding celebration.

Azerbaijani students were given an opportunity to look at rare historical and modern photos, which depict the nuances of concluding a marriage agreement, examining the skills of the future hostess and the groom's economy, the feast in honor of the engagement, the untying of the girl’s braid and the peculiarities of wedding rituals. The audience especially loved Ukrainian wedding embroidered outfit. The students were also interested in the fact that in Ukraine, a freedom-loving girl had the right to refuse a man and give him a pumpkin if she preferred to marry someone else. Wedding traditions of Ukraine are preserved in the people's memory and embody respect for parents, faith in a happy future, cleverness and sincere folk humor. Students had the opportunity to communicate in Ukrainian and English and asked questions about the unique and rich wedding traditions of Ukrainians to which the lecturers provided answers.

At the end of the meeting, Yelizaveta Isakova and Svitlana Dvorianchykova offered the students of Baku Slavic University to take a test to control the level of acquired knowledge and assimilation of the studied material.

The lecturers sincerely thank their colleagues and students of Baku Slavic University for their attention and cooperation!
