Students and teachers of Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design actively participates in all-Ukrainian and international events to popularize the state language and national culture.
On May 21, 2024, the All-Ukrainian Educational and Scientific Center of Shevchenko Studies at the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv awarded the winners of the contest in writing scientific works and essays on the topic “My Shevchenko”. The student of the educational program “Ukrainian language and literature and English philological studies” Olexandra Shevtsova (BVU-23) with her essay “Taras Shevchenko is not an old man in a coat” won the diploma of the winner in the “Best essay” nomination. Oleksandra is sure that Kobzar is a symbol of modern Ukraine in its struggle: “Taras Shevchenko has a tortured, mournful look in his paintings, but he was not like that in life! I believe that even after the exile there was strength in him. With his eyes, in my opinion, he could break down walls, give inspiration, hope and heal souls. Imagine: our compatriot escaped from the clutches of serfdom, and not only escaped, but became the person who fundamentally changed the established opinion about Ukraine and Ukrainians”. Svitlana Dvorianchykova, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of Philology and Translation became the student’s scientific supervisor.
The solemn event was held as part of the round table dedicated to the 163rd anniversary of Taras Shevchenko’s reburial on Chernecha Hill near Kaniv. The winners were heartily congratulated by Doctor of Philology, Professor, Head of the Department of History of Ukrainian Literature, Theory of Literature and Literary Creativity of Taras Shevchenko KNU Oksana Slipushko and Ihor Likhovyi, diplomat and cultural expert, director of Taras Shevchenko National Reserve in Kaniv (1989–2005), Minister of Culture and Tourism of Ukraine (2005–2006), First Deputy Minister of Culture of Ukraine (2014–2016).
