LECTURE "INTERIOR DESIGN OF MODERN BOOKSTORES"

On August 22, 2024, the Department of Interior Design and Furniture hosted a lecture by Iryna Havryliuk, co-founder and head of the Mira Architects studio, for students of the "Environmental Design" educational program. The lecture was dedicated to the interior design of modern bookstores.

Iryna Havryliuk discussed the work of Mira Architects and their completed projects for social and commercial cultural spaces. She shared her research on Ukrainian and European bookstore interior design practices. The speaker highlighted the characteristics of "first-wave" bookstores – purely retail spaces, and "second-wave" bookstores that incorporate additional services, such as bookstore-cafes and bookstore-lecture halls. Special attention was given to the modern trend of "third-wave" bookstores – club-style establishments that have their own concept and focus on creating a specific community.

The students enthusiastically discussed the concepts of "third-wave" bookstores, both those they were familiar with from personal experience and examples provided by the speaker. They also shared their thoughts on how the concept of an establishment is reflected in its interior design.

The lecture materials will be valuable for students as they work on the design project of a bookstore interior as part of the "Environmental Design" course. For this project, Mira Architects provided data from a real object as a starting point.

We are grateful to our stakeholders for their contribution to the development of the "Environmental Design" program and look forward to further fruitful collaboration.
