On September 11, 2024, a meeting of the scientific and creative club "SKETCHING CLUB" from the Department of Digital Art took place. A round table discussion, "Cultural Traditions of Ukraine," was traditionally held along with a sketching session dedicated to Borsch Day, celebrated on the second Saturday of September. The club leaders, instructor Svitlana Pashukova and senior lecturer Ulyana Balan, explored the topic "Artistic Means of Expression: Dots, Lines, Shapes, and Tone".
The event participants were students of the first (bachelor's) level of higher education of the "Digital Art" educational program, specializing in 023 "Fine Arts, Decorative Arts, Restoration" and 022 "Design." While exploring the historical and cultural aspects of Ukrainian traditions, they boldly created and experimented with lines, colors, and shapes in their sketches, aiming to convey not only the appearance but also the emotional essence of borsch and the unique spirit of this traditional dish.
The captivating event brought together gastronomic heritage and art, creating a unique space for creativity and cultural exploration. The event aimed to reinterpret traditional Ukrainian values through sketching experiments, combining artistic perspectives with culinary themes. This allowed the students to gain a deeper sense of national identity and sparked greater interest in Ukrainian cuisine and culture, as borsch is not just a dish but a symbol of cultural and historical heritage, deeply rooted in every Ukrainian family and embodying the strength and spirit of the Ukrainian people.
Sketching opens up vast opportunities for the development of creative thinking, encourages the improvement of key skills and abilities, and helps in finding original approaches to self-expression and representation.
We explore, we are proud, we create!
