The first year is the time when each student begins his journey in the world of knowledge, forming his own scientific and life experience. On August 19, 2024, a meeting of the first-year students of the Faculty of Arts and Fashion with the management of the Faculty, curators of academic groups and representatives of student self-government took place in the meeting hall of the Academic Council of Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design. Natalia Ostapenko, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Fashion, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, sincerely congratulated the students on behalf of the Rector of the University Ivan Gryshchenko, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and emphasized the importance of education and science, the development of students’ creative abilities, saying that the Faculty of Arts and Fashion is one of the leading ones in the University and has many years of successful history.
I was pleasant to meet the students of Group BIMd-24 of the EPP “Fashion Industry” on the first day of their studies. Tetiana Dzykovych, group curator, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, shared with them her own experience and advice on starting a successful study. The students introduced themselves to the teachers and other students of the Department of Fashion Technology.
During the first days of study, first-year students attended lectures, practical and laboratory classes, studied new educational components and got to know teachers, discussed new topics in classrooms, which is the basis of their professional growth. The desire for knowledge and the discovery of new horizons form and strengthen the team.
On August 22, 2024, a meeting of students took place with Olena Stepanova, Director of the Center for Quality Management of Educational Activities, Doctor of Cultural Studies. The professor held a public lecture on the topic “Principles of academic integrity of students at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design”. During the event, the students received a lot of useful information about academic integrity, independent search, analysis and summarization of information necessary for completing tasks. They learned that when using the ideas, developments and statements of other authors, it is necessary to follow the rules of reference to sources of information, which will help to avoid plagiarism and copyright infringement.
At the event organized by the KNUTD library on August 23, 2024, the students had the opportunity to delve into the past and listened with delight to the stories of the library representatives about the history of the state flag. The library expositions for Independence Day and Memorial Day of Defenders of Ukraine also became important not only as educational, but also as catalysts for deep reflection on the price of freedom. The video presentation, which highlighted the moment of bringing the flag into the Verkhovna Rada, caused a wave of emotions and pride in the audience for this great event. The students actively expressed their impressions, shared their thoughts about the present and future of Ukraine, because preserving the memory of Ukrainian heroes, their courage and resilience is the way to the formation of a strong and responsible civil society.
Visiting the Museum of Embroidery of KNUTD became a real discovery for the students, because each exhibit tells about the multifaceted nature of cultural heritage and the individuality of the creative process. Oksana Vodzinska, curator, Associate Professor of the Department of Fashion Technology and Natalia Ostapenko, Dean of the Faculty, gladly joined this event.
Tetiana Bukoros, director of the KNUTD scientific and technical library, spoke interestingly, professionally and inspiredly about the importance of preserving cultural heritage in the context of modernity. In particular, using the example of the history, features and uniqueness of the phenomenon of Krolevets rushnyks (embroidered towels), she emphasized that embroidery is not only an aesthetic element, but also a carrier of deep meanings associated with folk customs and holidays.
Studying the intricacies of Ukrainian embroidery, the first-year students not only learned about the history of this art, but also immersed themselves in the magical world of traditions and symbols. The students had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with embroideries, in which ancient traditions and modern trends are intertwined. Tetiana Oleksandrivna demonstrated how embroidery reflects the uniqueness of each region of Ukraine. After completing the tour, the students not only memorized the wonderful examples of art, but were also inspired for their own creative pursuits in the world of fashion.
In the educational process, conducting classes in the training and research laboratories is an important stage of training future specialists. The students could feel the atmosphere of modern technologies and innovations that form the research component of the fashion industry.
In the 3D training and research laboratory, Natalia Pervaia, Professor of the Department, told the students about anthropometric and biomechanical studies of feet for the development of shoe structures, prostheses, special purpose insoles, the creation of original collections of shoes and accessories, she emphasized the features of designing shoe pads taking into account the individual parameters of the feet, development designs of aesthetic and ergonomic shoe models using modern CAD.
Oksana Vodzinska, Associate Professor of the Department of Fashion Technology, introduced the students to the equipment in the training and research laboratory of sewing technologies in the fashion industry and told about its features. The main activities of teachers and students in the laboratory are the development, design and implementation of innovative technologies of the fashion industry in the educational process, improvement of the organization of the project and creative process, development of critical thinking and the search for new creative solutions in this field.
The curator of the group, Tetiana Dzykovych, showed and talked about the training knitting laboratory, where students get acquainted with new knitting techniques and technologies, thanks to the use of which it is possible to create modern and high-quality knitwear. Thus, thanks to including modern laboratories, a new generation of future professionals is growing, ready for the challenges of the fashion industry.
On August 22, 2024, the head of the Department of Fashion Technology, Olha Haranina, together with Tetiana Dzykovych, the curator of Group BIMd-24, visited Dormitory No. 2 of KNUTD, where students of the Faculty live. In the comfortable atmosphere of the dormitory, the teachers saw the living conditions of the students, learned about their needs and requests. Olha Oleksandrivna emphasized the importance of actively involving students in university life, forming a community where everyone can express their opinion and contribute to the development of the University. Tetiana Dzykovych, as the curator of the group, conducted a survey among students to find out their urgent everyday problems. The visitors noted that modern living conditions are not only an important factor in successful studies, but also foster a responsible attitude to life in the dormitory. The students received recommendations on the organization of collective events that will contribute to the formation of a friendly atmosphere in the dormitory. The meeting ended with answers to the questions of the first-year students and proposals on the possibilities of starting joint projects that will be able to unite students and teachers in the implementation of their ideas.
On September 2, 2024, an incredible event took place in the concert hall of Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design - the Freshmen Initiation Ceremony! KNUTD Rector Ivan Gryshchenko congratulated the first-year students on a new, interesting stage of their life - student life, which opens up unlimited opportunities and prospects. The chairman of the Supervisory Board of the University, Vasyl Kremen, emphasized that each student has many chances to leave his mark in history. The words of the famous masters Anatolyi Palamarenko and Vadym Kryshchenko were extremely inspiring and motivating, the stars of the Ukrainian scene urged to believe in oneself and one’s strengths, not to be afraid of difficulties and seek new horizons in the world of knowledge and creativity!
Positive mood, exchange of emotions and excitement from concert performances became the basis for creating pleasant memories that will inspire students during their studies. The time spent at the concert and joint celebration left unforgettable impressions in the hearts of young people.
The support and friendliness of the staff of the Department of Fashion Technology during events and meetings helped students to adapt to their studies faster and made it more interesting and positive. This added confidence and motivation for further learning and achieving success.
The first year is the beginning of a great story that awaits creative individuals who are ready to accept challenges on the way to knowledge and win!
