KNUTD REPRESENTATIVES PARTICIPATED IN THE SERIES OF WEBINARS "INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AS A CATALYST FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE INNOVATIVE ENVIRONMENT"

Invention is constantly changing the world around us, contributing to the development of new technologies, solving global problems for a better future, stimulating the development of education and science, and increasing the innovative image of the country. The State Organization "Ukrainian National Office of Intellectual Property and Innovation" (UKRNOIVI) has organized several online events for Inventor and Rationalizer Day, celebrated annually on September 21. A series of webinars on the topic "Intellectual property as a catalyst for the development of an innovative environment" was held, which helped participants to expand their knowledge, get practical advice, find new opportunities for development and cooperation, and also more effectively use intellectual property as a tool for innovative development. The event will bring together leading representatives of Technology and Innovation Support Centers, technology transfer centers, the innovation sphere, science, business, and all those interested in developing the innovation environment to discuss current issues of intellectual property and its role in stimulating innovation. Representatives of KNUTD willingly joined the event, including Prof. Nataliia Ostapenko and Assoc. Prof. Halyna Oliynyk, who listened with interest to four series of topical webinars.

The topic of the first series of webinars on September 17, 2024, was the insights of innovators from the business environment. Business representatives talked about their own experience of using intellectual property to develop their companies, protect new technologies, and create competitive advantages in the market. Speaker Yulia Dremlyuha, Lead R&D Engineer of the spin-off startup "R.Flo", thoroughly covered the material "Creating a competitive advantage of an innovative product with the help of intellectual property." President of Avelife Institute of Nanotechnology and Organic Products LLC, PhD in Economics, Honored Economist of Ukraine, Andrii Hyzhko, spoke about using production waste to obtain new types of products with new quality characteristics. The founder of the "Smartinhouse" brand, Vyacheslav Moroz, shared his experience in protecting innovations and launching new products using the example of the "Smartinhouse" company. Speaker Hryhoriy Zhovnir, a lawyer, developer, and inventor of sleeping bags with heating from alternative power sources, presented a report on “Strategies to protect innovations in the field of products for the outdoor industry and risk management experience”. The speakers unanimously testified that the purpose of the patent strategy is to create a stable position for the company in the selected market segment of goods and services. It is necessary to take measures for patent protection of your product, ensuring its protection with the help of intellectual property rights. An innovative product developer needs to consider the risks on the way to its creation and the patent strategy to overcome them.

The speakers of the second topic of the webinar series on September 19, 2024, were scientists and inventors who shared their own practical experiences, successes, and challenges that arose while implementing innovative projects and protecting intellectual property. In his report, Stanislav Bartashevsky, PhD and Associate Professor of NTU "Dnipro Polytechnic," revealed the topic "Lab to Market - the way to success". Head of the Technology and Innovation Support Center at VTEI DTEU, PhD, Associate Professor, and lawyer of the Vinnytsia Oblast Bar Council, Iryna Bilous, powerfully revealed the topic "Patent trolling in Ukraine: problems and solutions." Pavlo Karnozhytskyi, a graduate student of NTU "KhPI", Project Manager, presented a report on the topic “From the life of young scientists: how to tame a startup”.

Case studies of student innovation projects were discussed as part of the third topic of the webinar series on September 24, 2024. Graduate students and students who have developed and implemented new projects, created and developed their startups, the speakers shared their experiences about how intellectual property helped them achieve success. Ivan Novosyolov, CMO at MechLab 3D, spoke on "MechLab 3D case". Nikita Naida, an Ihor Sikorsky National Technical University of Ukraine graduate student, discussed the broadband acoustic ear echo spectrometer. Dmytro Savchenko, Master of NTU "KhPI" interestingly revealed the topic "Modern startup direction in NTU "KhPI" - from scientific research to a technological startup project”. Serhiy Puzko, PhD, founder and CEO of the company "CupCorn" for the production of disposable eco tableware from corn starch, presented a report on the topic “Intellectual property as a key factor for the success of investments at the pre-seed and seed stages”.

 

The topic of the fourth series of webinars on September 26, 2024, was the ideas and achievements of young talents. During the webinar, speakers – schoolchildren, and students of vocational and technical educational institutions – shared effective strategies for developing ingenuity and provided advice to help turn creative ideas into practical solutions for society. So, school students - Ivan Tyutko and Maksym Horeiko spoke about the results of their research. The geography teacher and head of research projects, Maryna Stoykova, shared her experience organizing research work with students. The following speakers emphasized the initiatives of the IP office in the field of education aimed at educating a new generation of inventors and providing schools with materials for learning the basics of intellectual property. The head of the Intellectual Property Academy Department of the IP office, Olha Kulinych, told how, thanks to the integration of creative approaches into educational programs, it is possible to effectively identify and develop the creative potential of children, contributing to their further professional self-realization.

Speaker Anastasia Yarmolyuk, head of the Department of Development of the Network of Technology and Innovation Support Centers of the Department of Development of Innovations of the IP office, covered the material on how vocational and technical institutions contribute to the training of qualified specialists.

 

Invention is the driving force of progress that constantly changes the world around us, contributes to the development of new technologies that expand the capabilities of humanity in various fields and contributes to the solution of global problems for a better future for the next generations.

We sincerely thank the State Organization "Ukrainian National Office of Intellectual Property and Innovation" for organizing a powerful modern event and the opportunity to participate in it, as well as the speakers for helpful information in their reports and new knowledge for implementing innovative ideas. During the webinars, the participants learned about practical experience and valuable advice from inventors from the scientific and business environments, graduate and undergraduate students, and young inventors. They were once again convinced that intellectual property is a powerful tool for implementing innovative ideas for a better future!
