On October 11, 2024, the Department of Digital Art held a workshop “The Art of Ukrainian Writing”. The meeting was organized by Olesia Rybchenko, Associate Professor of the Department of Digital Art.
The students of the Digital Art program, Group BCM-24, met with the famous calligrapher and project manager of Ruthenia, Anzhelika Korniienko.
After listening to a wonderful lecture on the Ukrainian grapheme, where students immersed themselves in the historical context of the origin of the Ukrainian script, and were able to reproduce the inscriptions in the famous techniques of Ukrainian fonts, namely Ruthenia, Didukh, Shypshyna, etc.
In addition, the students learned the decoding of the symbolism of each letter of the Ukrainian alphabet.
During the workshop, the students discussed the basis for the creation of any state, namely: Anthem, flag, language – because this is the basis and solid foundation that distinguishes a country in the world. For Ukraine, it is important to restore Ukrainian authentic fonts.
The event was aimed at revealing to young artists the possibilities of using Ukrainian graphemes, introducing them to various variants of patented fonts that are freely available on the official website of Ruthenia, so that they could apply this knowledge in their further studies. It is important for the Department of Digital Art to provide their students with high quality education, as well as to motivate them to study Ukrainian cultural heritage, fostering patriotic feelings and national dignity, which will contribute to the formation of a conscious civic position, providing an opportunity to develop one’s own author’s handwriting of a Ukrainian artist.
