On September 18 and 25, 2024, Dmytro Kuryata’s lectures for students of the first (bachelor's) level of higher education of the Department of Art and Fashion Design, which were devoted to the topic of creating a spectacular costume for a movie, theater and television, were held within the framework of the courses "Formation and Mock-up of Clothes" and "Fundamentals of the Fashion Industry".
Dmytro Kuryata graduated from KNUTD in 2004; in 2008, he won a prize at the Ukrainian National Competition of Young Designers “Fashion Seasons – A Look at the Future” (Kyiv) and an internship opportunity at Minerva Art Academy within Hanze University of Applied Sciences (Groningen, the Netherlands). In 2009-2016, he worked as the head of the Style Department and costume designer of the TV channel STB, was a designer of costumes for the shows “Everybody’s Dancing”, “Dancing with the Stars”, “Ukraine’s Got Talent”, and in 2016-2021 he participated in the creation costumes for Ukrainian Eurovision contestants.
The main topics of the lectures for the 1st- and 2nd-year students of the EP “Fashion Design” were the story about the peculiarities of creating a visual image of the characters of theater productions and films based on the example of cooperation with the Kyiv Modern Ballet Theater (2014-2024).
Dmytro talked about the intricacies of the visual solution and practical approaches to developing costumes for the musical performances “Aladdin”, “PinocchiYa” and “The Marriage of Figaro”. Separately, the designer shared his experience of participating in the development of stage costumes for the series “Serf” (TV channel STB, 2017), thanks to which he became the winner of the expert ranking “FILMED IN UKRAINE” as the best costume designer.
The result of the meeting with an experienced and successful master of spectacular clothing was the students’ awareness of the wide possibilities of their own creative realization, understanding of the meaning of obtaining specific theoretical knowledge and practical skills while studying at the University.
