On October 6, 2024, first-year undergraduate students of the "Environmental Design" educational program, accompanied by their curator Oleksandra Shmelova-Nesterenko, attended events as part of the Ukrainian Design and Innovation Week.
The students, along with their curator, visited the DESIGN MARKET held at the Mystetskyi Arsenal. The event featured numerous furniture pieces and other interior objects from renowned Ukrainian designers and design studios.
The first-year students showed great interest in the contemporary Ukrainian design objects and eagerly listened to the market participants, who spoke about the items on display.
One of the speakers, Olha Lys, co-founder of the furniture art studio "LYS", discussed the creation of original interior pieces and the unique qualities of handcrafted studio furniture. The students particularly enjoyed the showcased furniture pieces, which featured ethnic motifs and carvings, crafted from natural wood.
The students also had an opportunity to meet Natalia Donchenko, co-owner of the "DONNA" furniture factory, who was delighted to meet future designers and wished them success in their creative endeavors. Ms. Donchenko spoke about the factory’s furniture pieces and the specifics of their collaboration with designers.
Additionally, the students visited the ART MARKET at the Lavra Gallery, where they became acquainted with works of contemporary art, including paintings, sculptures, and photography.
We extend our sincere gratitude to KNUTD’s partners – the organizers of the Ukrainian Design and Innovation Week – for providing this opportunity, as well as to the market participants who generously shared their time and valuable information with the students.
