On 25 October, 2024, on the eve of the Day of Ukrainian Language and Literacy, the student and teaching community of Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design participated in the All-Ukrainian Radio Dictation of National Unity 2024. At our university, the event was traditionally held on the initiative of Tetiana Sinkevych, the head of the Primary Trade Union Organisation of Students, and the academic staff of the Department of Philology and Translation.

The participants gathered in the Academic Council meeting room and held their breath, listening attentively to the dictation text “The Magic of the Voice”, dedicated to the centenary of Ukrainian Radio. The text was written by writer, literary critic, and lecturer Oksana Zabuzhko, and was read aloud by poet, musician, and military man Pavlo Vyshebaba.

The air raid alarm, announced immediately after the start of the radio dictation, couldn’t stop the participants from continuing to write in the shelter: “And despite all the technological changes, for one hundred years now, Ukraine has been sounding its own voice over the airwaves of the planet. And no one will ever be able to silence or drown out our voice....”. Our students and lecturers “felt united in spirit”: they took a group photo for memory and discussed the complexities of the text.
