On October 24, 2024, within the framework of the discipline “Garment Technology”, a public lecture was held by Liudmyla Ivanova, Director of LLC “DANA-MODA”, a member of the Educational, Investment, and Technological Cluster of Light Industry in Kyiv, winner of the Borys Paton National Prize of Ukraine. The topic of the lecture was “Production Structure of a Modern Sewing Enterprise”. The event was held with the aim of improving the quality of the educational process and strengthening the professional training of bachelor students majoring in 182 Light Industry Technologies, under the educational and professional programs “Design and Technology of Garments”, “Modelling, Design and Artistic Decoration of Light Industry Products”, “Fashion Industry”.
Liudmyla Ivanova is a graduate of our University, a stakeholder in the above-mentioned educational programs, a worthy successor to a whole dynasty of fashion industry workers, and a person in love with her work.
The lecturer introduced the audience to the long and glorious history of the garment company she currently heads. LLC “DANA-MODA” (formerly “DANA” garment enterprise) was formed in early 1978 from two garment factories “Zhovten” and “Spetsodiah”. Liudmyla Ivanovna’s mother, Kateryna Andriivna Bozhok, was the company’s director for almost forty-two years. Today, her son, Ihor Ivanov, PhD, a graduate of our educational institution, works alongside Liudmyla Ivanova.
LLC “DANA-MODA” specializes in the production of outerwear for women and men: coats, half coats, anoraks, jackets, women’s suits, skirts, trousers, etc. The production facility is provided with modern equipment, allowing the use of advanced technologies both at the development stage and in the production of garments. Given the many years of experience in cooperation with well-known European brands, such as HUGO BOSS, MARKS & SPENCER, BETTY B., MONTANA, BERGHAUS, and others, the company manufactures products that are distinguished by their sophisticated design and impeccable quality. In this challenging time for our country, LLC “DANA-MODA” has mastered the production of military clothing and equipment.
In her lecture, Liudmyla Ivanivna stressed that a modern garment enterprise is a complex interaction mechanism between primary and auxiliary workshops and departments. Sewing operations are preceded by preparing models for launching into production and organizing production for their manufacture, preparing materials for cutting, and cutting materials. These processes are carried out in the experimental, preparatory, and cutting shops, respectively. Each of these departments has its own technological and organizational tasks to ensure the continuous operation of garment production. The rhythmic operation of the sewing department to produce competitive products depends on the quality of new models before they are put into production, the development of patterns for technological designs and highly efficient technology, and the provision of economically justified material costs.
During the meeting, the students learned about the professional specifics of the rational use of primary and auxiliary materials, the need to measure and reject materials, the specifics of working with modern textile materials, etc. The lecturer complemented the theoretical material with her production life examples, making the lecture feel relevant and contemporary.
The students had an opportunity to ask questions and gain a deeper understanding of how practical skills can increase their chances of a successful career in the light industry. At the end of the meeting, Liudmyla Ivanivna outlined the prospects for the development of the specialty 182 Light Industry Technologies, emphasized the demand for professionals in the industry: technologists, designers, quality experts, and stressed the importance of studying specialized disciplines, knowledge of which will help future specialists in their further professional development.
