On October 30, 2024, as part of the combination of practice-oriented training with the theoretical process within the educational component “Accounting” for 1st-, 2nd- and 3rd-year students majoring in 072 Finance, Banking, Insurance and Stock Market, 071 Accounting and Taxation, the Department of Finance and Business Consulting invited a practicing teacher Volodymyr Kostin, Head of the Group of Branches of the Kyiv Regional Center of JSC CB FUIB, to give a lecture on “Accounting in a Commercial Bank”. The purpose of the event was to combine theoretical knowledge with practical experience in bank accounting.
Volodymyr Kostin began with a general overview of the bank's operations, focusing on customer service and financial services. In particular, part of the lecture was devoted to working with loans, one of the most popular banking services. The lecturer explained how the decision to issue a loan is made, how the bank analyzes risks, assesses the client's solvency and chooses the best conditions for each request. This was an opportunity for the students to understand how complex financial models and theoretical aspects of risk management are applied in real-life situations.
During the meeting with the speaker, the students were introduced to the main regulatory documents that banking institutions are guided by when organizing and maintaining accounting. Thus, the Regulation on the Organization of Accounting and Accounting Control in the Course of Operating Activities in Banks, which defines the basic requirements for accounting and accounting control in the course of operating activities in Ukrainian banks.
He also outlined the main requirements of the Regulation on the accurate reflection of information in accounting and the implementation of internal control procedures, the requirements of the Regulation on the responsibility of the bank's head for the organization of accounting, the requirements of the Regulation on the responsibility of the bank's chief accountant for the implementation of internal accounting control procedures, the main requirements of the Regulation on the bank's accounting policy and technology for processing accounting information, etc.
In addition, Volodymyr Kostin shared his experience of working with clients, explaining that the professionalism of bank employees is not only about financial knowledge, but also about communication and psychology skills.
At the end of the lecture, the students asked a lot of questions about the specifics of banking, especially in the difficult conditions of economic instability, to which Volodymyr Kostin gave comprehensive professional answers and practical advice. He emphasized that banking today is not only about high professionalism and perfect mastery of accounting and financial management skills of a banking institution, but also about working in risky conditions, the ability to adapt to rapid changes and focus on long-term goals. This event was a great experience for the students, as it helped them to see the prospects for future work, in particular in banking institutions.
