On November 4, 2024, a masterclass was held at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design (KNUTD), led by Lidiia Makarenko, Ph.D. in Art Studies and Director of the NNIKKI KNUTD. The event was dedicated to songs of Ukrainian struggle and became an important occasion for students, faculty, and all those interested in Ukrainian cultural heritage.
In her discussion, Lidiia Makarenko emphasized the role of Ukrainian songs as a vital element of national identity. She highlighted that Ukrainian songs have accompanied the nation through the most challenging moments of history, from the Cossack era to contemporary events such as the Revolution of Dignity and the war in Eastern Ukraine. Through these songs, not only national consciousness was transmitted, but also an unwavering belief in victory.
The masterclass featured a performance by KNUTD’s vocal ensemble "Pecherski Dzvony." The group performed traditional Ukrainian songs that have become symbols of struggle and national dignity. The melodies, sung with passion, lingered in the hearts of the audience, reminding everyone of the importance of preserving cultural heritage and the fight for freedom.
Students had the opportunity not only to learn about the history of Ukrainian songs but also to connect with the profound emotional and cultural essence of the Ukrainian national spirit. Patriotic education is an important part of the learning process at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design, and events like Lidiia Makarenko's masterclass continue to foster the development of students' national consciousness.
