On November 8, 2024 , the Department of Digital Art of the Institute of Culture and Arts held a round table on the topic “The Return of Beauty”, which summarized the results of a meeting with the famous Ukrainian philosopher, Doctor of Philosophy, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Philosophy of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University (Kharkiv) Oleksandr Filonenko. The round table was held at the National Taras Shevchenko Museum and was organized and moderated by Olesia Rybchenko, Associate Professor of the Department of Digital Art.
The students of the Digital Art program listened to a lecture by the famous intellectual Oleksandr Filonenko and had an opportunity to discuss its theses, debate and ask questions. The topic “The Return of Beauty” provoked an active reaction from the students, because despite the difficult wartime, the search for beauty and the meaning of life is of particular importance. Oleksandr Filonenko’s lecture allowed the students not only to deepen their knowledge of aesthetics and philosophy, but also to feel the power of art as a means of preserving spiritual integrity in the face of difficult wartime trials.
The students discussed how beauty can be a source of inspiration and support, helping to develop creativity and keep hope alive. The discussion included ideas about the role of the artist in the modern world, the importance of aesthetic ideals, and how art can heal society, revive humanity, unite people, protect them from destructive things, and promote positive change, even in the most difficult moments.
Maryna Voloshko, a student of the BCM1-23 group, asked lecturer Oleksandr Filonenko whether there is a universal formula for beauty, or whether beauty is formed according to certain rules for each individual time and place. And she received a comprehensive and interesting answer: that beauty is something that gives strength in the most difficult times and has the ability to restore and heal, but only when we are ready to respond and react to it.
The round table was aimed at familiarizing the students with contemporary philosophical theories, promoting their comprehensive development and deep comprehension of their own creativity. Such events are certainly an important element of the educational process of artistic youth.
