On the eve of St. Nicholas Day, an integral part of Ukrainian culture, the stage of Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design transformed into a place where fairy tales came to life! Second-year students majoring in 026 “Performing Arts”, as part of their “Acting Skills” course, presented creative works based on beloved fairy tales.
Under the guidance of People’s Artist of Ukraine and professor of the Department of Performing Arts and Culture, Lev Somov, the students created true magic. Through deep emotional connections with the audience, every character appeared alive, genuine, and vivid. Their use of voice, movement, and choreography amazed with its expressiveness, while modern reinterpretations of classic plots skillfully integrated contemporary themes and artistic techniques, adding new meanings to familiar tales. Eternal themes of goodness, friendship, and justice were brought to life on stage.
Particularly captivating was the students’ ability to blend the fairy-tale atmosphere with creative dramaturgy and acting techniques. This event was a significant step in their professional development, as fairy tales serve as not only a source of inspiration but also a powerful tool for actors to work on creating characters, embodying vibrant and fantastical roles, exploring profound human emotions and archetypes, and practicing improvisation, offering a fresh perspective on well-known stories.
Fairy tales are more than just children’s stories; they are a profound school of imagery and life lessons that our talented students brought to life!
We express our gratitude to Professor Lev Somov for his support, wisdom, and mentorship, and to our students for their sincerity, creativity, and courage in shaping theatrical art at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design. KNUTD is a bright example of a European multidisciplinary and versatile institution of higher education in Ukraine, where the training of specialists across diverse fields and disciplines is harmoniously combined.
We eagerly await future performances, which will definitely once again surprise us with their energy and creative approach!
