In December 2024, Rector of the University, Ivan Gryshchenko, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, signed a memorandum of understanding between KNUTD and the company Redress Limited (Hong Kong, China), which confirms the intention to support circular fashion by popularizing education and various measures on ecological design among students, graduates, teachers and partners of the University.
On January 24, 2025, an online webinar “Strategies of circular fashion design: zero-waste design”, organized by the KNUTD partner Redress Company (Hong Kong, China), was held for students under the “Fashion Design” educational program of the first (bachelor’s) and second (master’s) levels of higher education, postgraduate students majoring in 022 “Design” and teachers of the Faculty of Design.
Redress Company is an Asian non-governmental environmental organization headquartered in Hong Kong, which aims to accelerate the transition to a circular fashion industry by educating and empowering designers and consumers to reduce the negative impact of clothing on the environment. That is why the lecture aroused lively interest among the students and teachers of the Faculty of Design, and prompted a professional discussion on such a relevant topic in fashion design.
Marianne Atkins, head of education at Redress, talked about circular design strategies and why they are important for designers.
The information shared by the lecturer during the presentation was very useful for designers to deepen their knowledge about creating circular fashion and gain an advantage in their application for the Redress Design Award competition.
The Redress Design Award is the world’s largest sustainable fashion design competition that educates emerging designers from around the world in sustainable design theories and methods to promote circular fashion. Bringing sustainable design talent to the global community’s attention, the Redress Design Award creates a unique platform for game-changing talented designers in the fashion world and awards the best career-changing prizes to increase long-term impact.
The webinar listeners also met last years’ Redress Design Award finalists Anli Su @anli_designer, Mikaela Klubourg @micaclubourg and Miranda Mallinson Pocock @miranda_mallinson, who shared their experience of participating in the competition and knowledge gained during their trips.
The attendees, graduate students, and academic staff members from the Department of Fashion Art and Design had the opportunity to hear personal and expert opinion on the challenges and opportunities of circular fashion design and the Redress Design Award competition, as well as ask their own questions live during a question-and-answer session.
Big thanks to Marianne Atkins, Anli Su, Michaela Kluburg and Miranda Mullinson Pocock and Redress from all the webinar participants! It was very important to get expert information about the challenges of circular fashion design and the prospects of participating in the Redress Design Award competition.
