The strong potential of Ukraine's light industry, in particular, garment production, contributes to the country's economic growth and has a positive impact on the social sphere, in particular through training of fashion industry workers. Softorg, a stakeholder and long-term partner of Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design, as a leading distributor of professional sewing equipment in Ukraine, is implementing its global mission to develop and technologically optimize the light industry in Ukraine.
From January 22 to 24, 2024, with the support of Ivan Gryshchenko, Rector of KNUTD, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, under the cooperation agreement between KNUTD and Softorg PE (Kyiv), a three-day express course for sewing technologists https://softorg.ua/novyny/vpershe-v-ukrayini-3-dennyj-ekspres-kurs-tehnologiv-shvejnogo-vyrobnycztva/ was held at the University for the first time in Ukraine.
The event was opened by Ivan Skorokhodov, Director of Research and Innovation at Softorg. He congratulated the participants on the start of the School of Technologists course, thanked Rector Ivan Gryshchenko for supporting the initiatives of the University's business partners, as well as the participants for their activity, thirst for knowledge, fruitful cooperation, and invited them to further participate in joint projects.
Liudmyla Hanushchak-Yefimenko, Vice-Rector for Research and International Activities, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Laureate of the Borys Paton National Prize of Ukraine, delivered welcoming remarks. She wished the participants new knowledge, productive work, exchange of experience, and emphasized the importance of the innovative special course for specialists of light industry enterprises under martial law. Liudmyla Mykhailivna emphasized the importance of further cooperation between the University and Softorg to train highly qualified specialists that the Ukrainian clothing industry needs today.
A landmark event was the training session for production technologists in the Mikhail Voronin Conference Hall. It houses exhibits reminiscent of the achievements of the great man, a fashion legend, designer, and manufacturer of classic men's clothing, researcher and inventor, author of the vest-model method.
The School of Technologists express course was organized for garment production specialists who understand the basics of production processes and want to master a new specialty or improve their skills.
For three days, under the guidance of Olesya Kalynych, the company's chief technologist and expert, a group of 20 people from different regions of Ukraine studied the organizational structure of modern garment enterprises of various capacities, the specifics of technological processes and documentation of the experimental, preparatory and cutting shops, industry equipment, professional aspects of technological preparation of garment models for launching into production, areas of mechanization and automation of production, etc.
Natalia Ostapenko, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Fashion, Professor; Olha Haranina, Head of the Department of Fashion Technology, Professor; Tetiana Struminska, Head of the Department of Fashion and Style, Associate Professor; Alla Rubanka, Associate Professor of the Department of Fashion and Style; Larysa Bilotska, Associate Professor of the Department of Fashion and Style; Oksana Vodzinska, Associate Professor of the Department of Fashion Technology; Halyna Oliynyk, Associate Professor of the Department of Fashion and Style took part in the internship program.
On the first day of her work, Olesia Kalynych shared her experience of working at leading garment enterprises in Ukraine and Uzbekistan, Turkey, India, etc. in a professional, partnership atmosphere, and gave a detailed and professional presentation of the production structure of garment enterprises, as well as the technological documentation of the experimental, preparatory and cutting shops. Particular attention was paid to drawing up a technological sequence for sewing a garment and a division of labor scheme, as well as performing basic technological calculations.
The next lecturer of the first day, Alla Rubanka, PhD, Associate Professor of the Department of Fashion and Style, Chief Designer of Ukrtextile LLC, discussed the issues of modern directions of using CAD programs for design preparation in cutting production.
On the second day of the workshop, January 23, 2025, the participants heard a report by Ihor Schneider, Chief Engineer of the Softorg Service Center, on innovative areas of automation of workplaces and production processes. The lecturer spoke about the operation of modern automated equipment for knotting in the sewing shop, semi-automatic machines for sewing labels, for stitching the bottom of products, processing a fastener, etc. The information aroused interest, lively discussion and many professional questions from the course participants.

The next speaker of the second day, Stanislav Porub, Head of Softorg Network, highlighted the current problems of preproduction at the garment enterprise, introduced the latest Serkon machines for quantitative and qualitative control of fabrics, as well as the innovative artificial intelligence system Serkon Fabriq Vision, and described in detail the operation of automated cutting and sewing complexes with computer control.

The third day of the course was devoted to specific practical tasks, namely the development of technological documentation for a specific model of garment, drawing up a technological processing sequence and a division of labor scheme, in order to consolidate the knowledge, acquire skills and develop abilities. The participants performed the tasks of developing documentation for launching products into production in a professional and motivated manner. Lively discussions, exchange of opinions, and constructive recommendations from Olesya Kalynych and the University's teachers continued throughout the event, and each participant had the opportunity to gain new knowledge and skills.
As part of the event, the students were able to look at the exhibits of the Embroidery Museum, the Educational and Scientific Laboratory of Garment Technologies in the Fashion Industry, etc.
It is worth noting that the days of the School of Technologists were rich, powerful and extremely inspiring.
The participants of the courses expressed their sincere gratitude to Softorg, the speakers and Olesya Kalynych personally for their professionalism, useful cognitive information during the classes, individual approach to everyone and friendly relaxed atmosphere!
In the end, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Fashion, Professor Natalia Ostapenko, made a closing speech.
