On March 3, 2025, the academic mobility program for students of the Faculty of Design at KNUTD was launched as part of the joint COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) project “Global Live Project: A Portal Connecting Three Countries”.
This collaboration brings together students and lecturers from the Faculty of Design at KNUTD with their counterparts from the Faculty of Arts, Fashion, and Media at Birmingham City University, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and the University of Chicago.
The project curators include Lara Furniss from Birmingham City University; Jackie Vu from the University of Chicago and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago; Kalyna Pashkevych, Dean of the Faculty of Design, and Olena Vasylieva, Head of the Department of Multimedia Design from KNUTD.
More than 20 students from the Faculty of Design, KNUTD, representing various academic programs and levels, are participating in the project. Among them are Viktor Alexandrov, Alina Bilokon, Maria Ponomarenko, Alina Vasyluk, Yulia Heorhiieva, and others.
Online meeting of students and lecturers from KNUTD, Birmingham City University, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and the University of Chicago.
During the meeting, Professor Lara Furniss introduced the students to the main objectives, project implementation specifics, and reporting requirements.
The 2025 project is centered around the conceptual theme “What makes a home?”, exploring the meaning of home through the lens of design and modern technologies. The primary goal is to create innovative design products that reflect the cultural values of people from different countries.
In this project, home is viewed as a structure, a place, a country, a feeling, an emotional connection, or the people closest to us. The project’s outcome may take the form of a physical installation, a large-scale model made from various materials, or a virtual 3D representation of “home” environments, allowing students from different cities to influence one another. Ideas will be developed using the Figma platform, and the collaboration will end with a real-time event.
Presentation of ideas on "What makes a home?" within the framework of academic mobility
As part of the project implementation, a weekly meeting is scheduled to discuss the progress of tasks within the framework of international academic mobility.
The students collaborate in intercultural teams, gaining valuable skills in communication, teamwork, idea exchange, and mutual respect.
This meeting marked another important step in KNUTD’s international cooperation, contributing to the further development of cultural exchange and professional interaction.
A special thanks to Professor Lara Furniss from Birmingham City University for organizing this international academic mobility project!
