On April 8, 2025, the exhibition “BIOFASHION. COSTUME AS A FORM OF LIFE” opened at the Khlibnya gallery of the National Conservation Area “Sophia of Kyiv”. The exhibition featured creative works and art projects by students of the Department of Art and Fashion Design at KNUTD, created under the guidance of their teachers. The works were performed by students under the guidance of teachers of the Department of Contemporary Art: Nataliia Chuprina, Tetyana Krotova, Galyna Kokorina, Iryna Davydenko, Marina Yatsenko, Olena Herasymenko, and Iryna Chubotina.
The exhibition was solemnly opened by the Rector of KNUTD Ivan GRYSHCHENKO, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Ivan Mykhailovych spoke about the achievements of KNUTD as a world-famous school of arts and design, a university that is a flagship in training specialists in design, modeling, construction, clothing technologies and fashion industry products and occupies high places in world rankings. Thanks to the creative achievements of the KNUTD team, according to the CEOWORLD MAGAZINE ranking in 2025, the University took 51st place among the recognized design schools in the world.
KNUTD is a proud member of several prestigious international organizations, including the CUMULUS Association (International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design and Media), the European League of Institutes of the Arts (ELIA), and the Three Seas Initiative Cultural Cooperation Network Project, among other respected institutions in the field of art and design.
The Director of the NCA “Sophia of Kyiv,” Nelia Kukovalska, in her speech, highlighted the high quality and compositional harmony of the models created by the young designers. She emphasized their creativity and talent, and expressed her gratitude to the Rector of KNUTD, Ivan Mykhailovych, for many years of fruitful cooperation.
The Dean of the Faculty of Design Kalyna Pashkevych, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor sincerely thanked the Rector Ivan Mykhailovych for his support in organizing the exhibition and the artistic direction at KNUTD. Graduates of the Department of Art and Fashion Design of KNUTD, which began its activities in 1987, are famous Ukrainian designers, enhancing the image of our country in the world, popularizing national culture on world catwalks in Paris, London, Milan, New York, Tokyo, etc., at exhibitions, forums and other presentation venues, receiving world recognition and glorifying our state. She noted that the unique methods of training specialists in clothing and costume design make it possible to obtain such high results. She thanked the teachers of the Department of Fashion Design, the curators of the exhibition Halyna Kokorina, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor and Iryna Davydenko, Associate Professor, for passing on their knowledge to young teachers and students.
The curator of the exhibition, Halyna Kokorina, said that this is the third joint creative project by the NCA "Sophia of Kyiv" and KNUTD, designed to preserve, disseminate and multiply cultural, artistic and environmental values and achievements of society. The exhibition “BIOFASHION. COSTUME AS A FORM OF LIFE” presents models created by higher education students of the Department of AFD, KNUTD, within the course "Form-making and clothing layout" and as part of preparation for the International Competitions "Suzirya "Kashtan", "Pecherski Kashtany", etc.
Halyna Kokorina thanked the staff of the Department of Art and Fashion Design for organizing the exhibition and effective work on preparing students for creative modeling and shaping.
It is noteworthy that the students actively participated not only in the creation of wonderful and extraordinary projects, but also in the design of the exhibition and planning of the exhibition space together with their teachers.
