OPEN LECTURE «STRATEGY ENGINEERING: WITH TOOLS FOR PRODUCT AND ORGANIZATIONAL QUALITY»

On 11 April 2025, an online lecture was held by Tom Gilb, an Honorary member of the British Computer Society, engineer and scientist who has made a great contribution to the development of engineering planning approaches. He has been a guest lecturer at leading universities in the UK, Europe, China, India, the US, and Korea, as well as a keynote speaker at dozens of technical conferences internationally.

The lecture on "Strategy Engineering: with tools for product and organizational quality" was attended by teachers of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and PhD students of programme 133 "Industrial Engineering".

The lecture focused on a modern, quality-oriented approach to strategic engineering. Instead of traditional planning, the strategy was seen as a dynamic evolutionary process aimed at continuously improving important characteristics such as efficiency, sustainability, and safety.

According to the concepts proposed by Tom Gilb, the EVO cycle, based on the principles of fractal and scale-free structures, is central to the approach. As a result, it becomes possible to achieve consistency of strategic goals at all levels of the organisation - from management to employees.

The lecture also discussed the strategy impact table, which helps analyse the impact of decisions on several aspects simultaneously, as well as the role of artificial intelligence in enhancing the adaptability of strategic planning.

This lecture was extremely useful for PhD students, future engineers and scientists, and opened up new approaches to strategic thinking that can be applied in both research and project activities.
