The challenges of war place a continuous strain on the psycho-emotional state. Chronic stress can leave individuals feeling completely exhausted and helpless – early signs of emotional burnout. This condition is characterized by emotional and physical exhaustion, leading to a significant decline in productivity and overall motivation. Recognizing the initial symptoms of emotional burnout in a timely manner and seeking support is crucial to maintaining mental well-being.
On April 3, 2025, Vladyslav Kolesnyk, a bachelor student of the “Professional Education” program of the Department of Professional Education in Technology and Design, together with Alla Kolodyazhna, PhD in Psychology, Associate Professor, held a preventive event on the topic “Returning Lost Energy: Emotional Burnout” as part of the “Know Yourself” club.
Vladyslav noted that experts classify the signs of emotional burnout into three categories: physical, emotional, and behavioral. Physical signs include constant fatigue throughout the day, sleep disturbances, changes in appetite, weakened immunity, and frequent illnesses. Emotional signs often manifest as self-doubt, feelings of loneliness or detachment, helplessness, loss of motivation, a negative or cynical attitude toward others, and a general lack of satisfaction with life. Behavioral signs may include social withdrawal, projecting negative experiences onto others, procrastination or delays in completing tasks, avoidance of responsibility, and emotional instability.
The speaker emphasized that emotional burnout most often appears as a combination of multiple symptoms. These may include a lack of enthusiasm, disappointment in oneself and one’s work, avoidance of challenges, and a persistent sense of helplessness. Additional signs can be frequent mood swings and difficulty concentrating on tasks. If you notice any of these signs, it’s important to seek professional support or take steps to address the issue independently.
Vladyslav also discussed the causes and stages of emotional burnout and ways to overcome it.
Emotional burnout is a pressing issue for many of us. The best way to combat it is through rest and recovery, maintaining a balanced routine, fostering social connections, and achieving a healthy work-life balance.
The club meeting was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, and it proved to be insightful, informative, and truly motivating!
