PUBLIC LECTURE BY A PRACTITIONER FOR STUDENTS OF THE FACULTY OF ENGINEERING AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES

On April 11, 2025, a public lecture in English on “The Role of Robotics in the Implementation of Industry 4.0” was delivered by Oleksandr SKVORCHEVSKYI, PhD, Director of the Center for Research in Robotics, Mechatronics and Production Informatization in Kharkiv. The meeting was moderated by Vladyslava SKIDAN, Head of the Department of Information and Computer Technologies, PhD, Associate Professor, and Oleh NIKONOV, Professor of the Department of ICT, Doctor of Technical Sciences.

In his lecture, Oleksandr SKVORCHEVSKYI provided the audience with an overview of the evolution of industrial epochs  from Industry 1.0 (mechanization of production with steam engines), through Industry 2.0 (introduction of electrification and mass production), Industry 3.0 (automation using electronics and IT), to Industry 4.0 a stage characterized by the introduction of cyber-physical systems, the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence and cloud technologies.

The lecturer focused in particular on practical cases of robotics implementation within the framework of Industry 4.0. Students learned about the application of collaborative robots (cobots) that operate alongside humans on production lines; the deployment of autonomous mobile platforms to automate logistics processes; the use of computer vision systems for product quality control; and the integration of robotic systems with IoT and cloud services for real-time data collection, analytics, and optimization of production workflows.

The lecture sparked great interest among both students and lecturers. The participants’ questions touched not only on the technical aspects of modern technology development but also on philosophical issues – in particular, the harmonious coexistence of humans and robotic systems with artificial intelligence in the future. The event became a significant moment in the educational process and served as a platform for the exchange of knowledge between theory and practice.

The staff of the Department of Information and Computer Technologies sincerely thanks Oleksandr Skvorchevskyi for his engaging and insightful lecture. We look forward to more such events and continued fruitful cooperation!
