On April 17, 2025, Alla Kolodyazhna, PhD in Psychology, Associate Professor of the Department of Professional Education in Technology and Design, took part in a webinar on “Modern Tools for Diagnosing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)” as part of the project “Professional Development in Mental Health: Knowledge, Experience, Practice” conducted by the Coordination Center for Mental Health of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine / Mental Health UA.
Its goal is to provide access to the knowledge and expertise of internationally recognized specialists, as well as to introduce best clinical practices and scientific innovations.
The project is being implemented within the framework of the All-Ukrainian Mental Health Program “Are You OK?”, an initiative of First Lady Olena Zelenska.
The webinar focused on key topics such as psychosocial factors that cause stress and contribute to the development of mental and behavioral disorders, diagnostic criteria and symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, and an overview of psychodiagnostic tools for screening and psychological assessment of individuals affected by traumatic events, including military personnel and veterans.
The speaker at the event was Tеtiana Nickelsen, PhD, MBA, Research Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Texas A&M University College of Medicine.
Dr. Nickelsen has dedicated her career to researching post-traumatic stress disorder, developing trauma-informed care, and implementing evidence-based practices in mental health. Dr. Nickelsen earned her PhD and MBA in Ukraine and currently serves as a Research Assistant Professor under the PTSD Program at Texas A&M University College of Medicine. Tetiana Nickelsen has extensive experience in international collaboration, including partnerships with the University of Michigan. Since 2022, she has been leading initiatives to develop evidence-based trauma care in Ukraine and is working to establish an international PTSD research network.
