LECTURE FOR FASHION DESIGNERS AS PART OF DESIGN WEEK 2025 AT KNUTD

On April 29, 2025, an open online lecture by Olena Gerasymenko, PhD, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of Art and Fashion Design of the KNUTD on the topic “Children's Fashion of the 20th – 21st Centuries: Evolution, Trends” was held. The lecture took place as part of the most significant creative event of the year – the Ukrainian Design and Innovation Week (UDIW), as well as Design Week at KNUTD.

The online lecture was attended by students and lecturers of KNUTD, as well as Khmelnytskyi National University, Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University, and the founder of the Design and Innovation Week, Kateryna Roskovshenko, a designer and architect.

Olena Gerasymenko, who is a practicing specialist with 10 years of experience working at the enterprise as an apparel designer, spoke about the prerequisites for the emergence of children's fashion, the beginning of gender segregation in children's clothing and the separation of children's fashion as a social phenomenon, and the development of children's fashion in Ukraine and the world in the 20th century, in particular the mass appearance of children's fashion brands on the market, the opening of industrial exhibitions and children's clothing lines by Fashion Houses and brands.

Using examples of the works of Ukrainian and international designers, the lecturer described the main trends in children's fashion, the mutual influence of adult and children's fashion trends, and the main artistic and figurative features of children's costumes of the 20th and early 21st centuries.

After the lecture, the audience had the opportunity to ask questions and received comprehensive answers.

The lecture contributed to deepening knowledge about the development of children's fashion in Ukraine and around the world in the 20th – 21st centuries, about current trends in children's fashion, which can be used by specialists – designers of children's clothing in their professional activities, and to help improve the competencies of future fashion designers.
