On May 15, 2025, Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design celebrated one of the most vibrant holidays of Ukrainian identity – Vyshyvanka Day. The event took place under the symbolic theme “Vyshyvanka: Code of the Nation and Symbol of Unity”, bringing together the University community around shared values of patriotism, respect for tradition, and national culture.
The celebration began with a welcoming speech by Ivan Gryshchenko, Rector of KNUTD, Doctor of Economics, Professor, and Academician of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine.
In his address, the Rector congratulated everyone present on Vyshyvanka Day, emphasizing the significance of this national symbol as a manifestation of the cultural heritage, spiritual strength, and identity of the Ukrainian people. He also reminded the audience that this year the University celebrates the 95th anniversary of its founding and shared personal memories of the historic day when the first Verkhovna Rada of independent Ukraine was established, of which he was a member.
“The vyshyvanka is not just clothing – it is the bulletproof vest of the Ukrainian soul. It is the history we carry on our bodies, the bond between generations, and a symbol of our dignity, freedom, and indomitability”, emphasized Ivan Mykhailovych.
Students and teachers from three professional colleges of the University joined the celebration via video conference:
Professional College of Arts and Design, KNUTD (Kyiv);
Lviv Professional College of Fashion Industry, KNUTD (Lviv);
Chernihiv Professional College of Engineering and Design, KNUTD (Chernihiv)
College directors, joining the Rector’s congratulations, addressed the participants with warm words of support and faith in a shared future, emphasizing the importance of this day for the large KNUTD family and all of Ukraine.
The celebration continued with an artistic flash mob – a collective performance of Stepan Charnetskyi’s song “Oh, the Red Viburnum in the Meadow”. This symbol of national resistance was performed by KNUTD students, teachers, and staff, bringing everyone together in a deeply emotional and patriotic act.
The flash mob was organized by the Department of Performing Arts and Culture, with the participation of students of the “Performing Arts” specialty, People’s Artist of Ukraine Oleksandr Vasylenko, concertmaster Yulia Makhotina, teachers Iryna Bilous, Daryna Chernyak, Diana Karpenko, Head of the Department Vira Burnazova, and Director of the Institute of Culture and Creative Industries Lidia Makarenko.
This artistic act became the embodiment of the power of the cultural front, where a holistic, conscious, nationally oriented personality is formed through art.
The celebration concluded with a group photo featuring more than 300 participants – students, teachers, and university staff – all dressed in embroidered shirts. Together, they created a vibrant living kaleidoscope of Ukrainian identity, pride, and unwavering faith in victory.
Vyshyvanka is not just clothing. It is the genetic code of the nation, preserving the history, traditions, and dignity of the Ukrainian people. The staff of the Kyiv National University of Technology and Design sincerely congratulates everyone on Vyshyvanka Day and wishes peace, unity, strength of spirit, and unwavering faith in the bright future of Ukraine!
