On May 5, 2025, the Department of Professional Education in Technology and Design of Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design held a non-standard but extremely informative training session for 1st and 2nd-year bachelor students of the EPP “Psychology” on the topic “The Power of Emotions: Psychology of Expression and Perception”.
It is well known that emotions are a fundamental part of who we are and play a crucial role in how we relate to the world around us. Nature has endowed us with emotions to help us learn, grow, and use them to our advantage – gaining strength and making our lives richer and more harmonious. By learning to manage our emotions, we become the creators of our own lives. Emotions are essential in interpersonal relationships, adding depth and color to communication and offering a glimpse into a person’s inner world. They are perhaps the most powerful force shaping the events of our lives, and emotional awareness is a vital component of personal and professional success.
A psychologist’s ability to understand, manage, and distinguish between their own emotions and those of others helps eliminate many doubts and fears, enabling them to understand others’ motives and interact more effectively. Emotional intelligence fosters strong self-regulation, allowing psychologists to manage their emotions, maintain composure, and build relationships in alignment with their true selves. Therefore, developing emotional intelligence is essential for psychologists.
Oleksandr Starchenko, a 4th-year student of the first (bachelor’s) level of the specialty 026 “Performing Arts” of the creative workshop of People’s Artist L. Somov, KNUTD, shared his own experience and practical skills of working with emotions.
Throughout the meeting, Oleksandr demonstrated how emotional intonation can completely change the meaning of ordinary words. By reciting tongue twisters with various emotional tones, he vividly illustrated that communication is not only about what we say, but also how we say it. This simple yet effective technique helped participants gain a deeper understanding of the role emotions play in communication and psychological interaction.
The students actively engaged in the training, not just as observers but as participants in the exercises. They worked to recreate given situations, expressing them through a range of emotional states. This hands-on practice provided a valuable opportunity to develop emotional intelligence, empathy, and non-verbal communication skills.
The event took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere, leaving participants with vivid impressions and valuable insights. Many noted that the experience helped them not only to better understand others but also to become more aware of their own emotions and inner states.
We sincerely thank Oleksandr for his initiative, creativity, and the inspiration he shared with his younger colleagues. Events like this once again prove that learning can be exciting and truly transformative.
Everything will be Ukraine!
