PUBLIC LECTURE “CURRENT STATE OF AI IN IT: FROM AI ASSISTED TO AI DRIVEN DEVELOPMENT”

On April 29, 2025, within the framework of the cooperation agreement between Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design (KNUTD) and the leading IT company SoftServe, a public lecture was held for the first (bachelor’s) level of higher education of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies (specialties F2 “Software Engineering”, F3 “Computer Science”, F7 “Computer Engineering”, F6 “Information Systems and Technologies”): “Current state of AI in IT: from AI Assisted to AI Driven Development”. The event was also joined by the academic staff of the Departments of Information and Computer Technologies and Computer Engineering and Electromechanics.

The event was moderated by Ihor Panasiuk, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, and Victoria Shevliuk, Junior Employer Brand Specialist, from SoftServe.

The speaker of the event was Viacheslav Koldovskyi, PhD, Associate Professor, 20+ SoftServe Academy Competence Manager, Certified Google Cloud Professional Architect, practical AI enthusiast, YouTuber (youtube.com/@programmingmentorua), blogger (t.me/programmingmentor).

During the lecture, Viacheslav Koldovskyi provided an insightful overview of the history of the software engineering profession. He outlined the key stages in the evolution of communication and design approaches, from paper-based documentation to digital environments, and from limited, primitive forms of team interaction to the use of intelligent AI assistants capable of analyzing, designing, and even writing code.

The speaker elaborated on the evolution of a programmer from Software Engineer 1.0 to AI-Driven Developer, where artificial intelligence is not only an auxiliary tool but a full-fledged participant in the software product development process. The lecturer presented practical cases of applying modern AI solutions in real IT projects, demonstrated tools that are already being actively implemented in everyday practice, and highlighted key challenges that accompany the integration of AI into software development.

Special attention was given to the concepts of Software Engineer 2.0 and Software Engineer 3.0 the evolving generations of software engineering.

Software Engineer 2.0 is characterized by multiscreen work, a new level of communication in teams, the use of basic AI tools, as well as access to educational resources, online courses, and professional communities.

Instead, Software Engineer 3.0 is a new stage of evolution in software development based on in-depth knowledge, wide access to online resources, various educational platforms, and courses that open up opportunities for mastering the IT field from scratch to professional employment.

Viacheslav Koldovskyi also introduced the concept of “vibe coding” – a unique, creative approach to programming in modern conditions that incorporates intuition, a comfortable working environment, and tools that support the developer’s flow. He highlighted the importance of adopting the right approach to using AI, showcased a variety of available tools, and emphasized that technological progress is transforming not only the tools themselves but also the very nature of the programmer’s profession.

The importance of fundamental technical training was emphasized. In particular, without a solid understanding of algorithms, data structures, and core programming principles, the effective use of AI will remain superficial and limited.

The lecture was followed by an active discussion, during which the students had an opportunity to ask relevant questions about the practical implementation of AI tools in development activities, professional development opportunities in the field of artificial intelligence, as well as internship and employment prospects at SoftServe. Viacheslav Koldovskyi provided comprehensive answers, shared his advice on building a career in the IT industry, and outlined the key competencies preferred during the selection process.

Thanks to the partnership with SoftServe, KNUTD students have the opportunity to gain relevant knowledge directly from industry practitioners, expand their professional vision and build a future career in the IT field.

The staff of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology at KNUTD expresses sincere gratitude to SoftServe for the fruitful cooperation, informative lecture, and valuable exchange of experience. Special thanks go to the speaker, Viacheslav Koldovskyi, for his professionalism, inspiration, and engaging presentation of the material, which opened new horizons for future IT professionals. The event served as an important platform for dialogue between education and the IT industry, motivating students to continue their development and realize their potential in the modern digital world.
