On May 22, 2025, representatives of the Faculty of Design of KNUTD took part in the round table “Formation of higher education standards for the specialty B2 “Design”: national priorities and international benchmarks”.
The round table brought together design professionals from Ukrainian educational institutions to discuss the components of the new B2 “Design” standard.

The roundtable participants heard a report by Petro Nahirnyi, who presented proposals for shaping the components of the new standard for the specialty B2 “Design.” His proposals covered the objects of study and activity, learning objectives, theoretical content of the subject area, methods, techniques and technologies, as well as tools and equipment.

The discussion also centered on key terms and concepts, with Petro Nahirnyi emphasizing the concept of “Design” as a form of thinking.
Volodymyr Stasenko proposed clarifying the terminology used in the draft descriptions of the theoretical content of the subject area and the learning objectives.

Kalyna Pashkevych emphasized that the theoretical content of the subject area, as defined by the standard, should align with the broader field of knowledge to which the specialty belongs. She noted that it should characterize the specialty as a whole and be clearly distinguished from the formulations used for other specialties.
Nataliia Skliarenko offered clarifications to the wording in the description of the object of study and activity, while generally expressing support for the proposed formulation.

Oksana Lahoda, while not disputing the definition of design as a project-based activity, suggested that artistic aspects should also be taken into account when describing the subject area of the specialty in the Standard, as well as when defining key concepts, theories, and principles.

All round table participants actively contributed to the discussion. The theoretical content of the subject area outlined the body of theoretical knowledge that defines the specialty B2 “Design” within the field of knowledge B “Culture, Arts, and Humanities”, taking into account the International Standard Classification of Education.
