DISCUSSION OF THE EDUCATIONAL AND SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM “DESIGN” OF THE SPECIALTY B2 “DESIGN”

On May 13, 2025, a round table brought together stakeholders from the academic community, employers, prospective PhD students, and graduates of the “Design” program.

The discussion focused on the content and structure of the third (educational and scientific) level of the Educational and scientific Program “Design” under Specialty B2 “Design” in the field of knowledge B “Culture, Arts, and Humanities”.

The event was moderated by Tetiana Krotova, Doctor of Art History, Professor, Professor of the Department of Art and Fashion Design, KNUTD.

The event was attended by representatives of KNUTD: Kalyna Pashkevych, Dean of the Faculty of Design, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor; Nataliia Chuprina, Doctor of Art History, Professor, Head of the Department of AFD; Olha Yezhova, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Professor of the Department of Graphic Design; Danylo Kosenko, PhD, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Interior and Furniture Design; Olena Herasymenko, PhD, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of AFD; Tetiana Bulhakova, PhD, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of Interior and Furniture Design, as well as teachers and graduate students of the Faculty of Design.

Colleagues from educational institutions in Ukraine and abroad were invited:

Oksana Lahoda, Doctor of Art History, Professor, Head of the Department of Fabric and Fashion Design, Kharkiv State Academy of Arts;

Lada Tsymbala, PhD, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of Art Theory and History, Lviv National Academy of Arts;

Natalia Skliarenko, Doctor of Art History, Professor, Professor of the Department of Architecture and Design, Lutsk National Technical University

Julia Tretiak, Doctor of Architecture, Professor, Head of the Department of Design, Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture;

Sviatoslav Berdinskykh, PhD, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Design, University of Economics and Law “KROK”;

Serhiy Koval, PhD, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Design, Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding, and others.

Professor Tetiana Krotova, the guarantor of the EP “Design,” presented the program to the stakeholders, outlining its main objectives, educational components (ECs), and their role in developing both general and professional competencies, as well as achieving the program’s learning outcomes.

Colleagues from partner higher education institutions shared their experiences in training graduate students in the specialty B2 “Design.” They generally praised the content of the EP “Design” and offered constructive suggestions for its improvement. For instance, Professor Oksana Lahoda recommended strengthening the scientific component and incorporating conceptual approaches to design in graduate training, particularly within the discipline “Design and Ergonomics.”

Professor Natalia Skliarenko shared her experience in organizing practical training and teaching components of pedagogical training at the doctoral level, and introduced the disciplines “Methods of writing scientific publications” and “Principles of sustainable development in design” as elective courses.

Lada Tsymbala generally approved of the EP “Design” and drew attention to the need to ensure its compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals.

During the event, members of the working groups involved in developing the educational outcomes, along with academic staff and graduate students, shared their suggestions and engaged with stakeholders’ feedback on the educational components. Particular attention was given to the need to deepen the study of certain topics to enhance the overall quality of graduate training.

Postgraduate student Olehoslav Serbin expressed a wish to strengthen the topic on the rules of writing research papers within the discipline “Methodology of Scientific Research with the Basics of Intellectual Property”.

The program guarantor Tetiana Krotova thanked the participants for their comments and suggestions.

As a result of the meeting, several stakeholder proposals aimed at improving the EP “Design” were agreed upon and will be taken into consideration in the further development of the program.
