ROUND TABLE WITH STAKEHOLDERS TO DISCUSS EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ART AND FASHION DESIGN

On May 13, 2025, a round table was held with stakeholders from the academic community, employers, prospective students, and graduates of the educational programs offered by the Department of Art and Fashion Design (AFD) at both the bachelor's and master's levels.

The participants of the round table discussed the content and components of the first (bachelor's) level program “Fashion Design”, the second (master's) level program “Costume Design”, specialty B2 “Design”, field of knowledge B “Culture, Arts and Humanities”.

The event was moderated by Kalyna Pashkevych, Dean of the Faculty of Design of KNUTD, Doctor of Engineering, Professor.

The event was attended by Natalia Chuprina, Doctor of Arts, Professor, Head of the Department of AFD; Tetiana Krotova, Doctor of Arts, Professor, Professor of the Department of AFD; Olena Herasymenko, Doctor of Philosophy, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of AFD; Olha Yezhova, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Professor of the Department of Graphic Design, as well as lecturers, students and postgraduate students of the Faculty of Design.

Colleagues from educational institutions in Ukraine and abroad were invited, as well as partners – owners of design firms for the production of clothing, specialists in the fashion industry:

Angela Skripchenko, PhD, Professor, Faculty of Design, Technical University of Moldova;

Oksana Lahoda, Doctor of Arts, Professor, Head of the Department of Fabric and Fashion Design, Kharkiv State Academy of Arts;

Lada Tsymbala, PhD, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of History and Theory of Art, Lviv National Academy of Arts;

Nataliia Skliarenko, PhD, Professor, Professor of the Department of Architecture and Design, Lutsk National Technical University.

Bohdan Kass, designer, founder of the fashion brand “KASS”, multiple participant of Ukrainian Fashion Week;

Oleksiy Kraievsky, designer, fashion historian, lecturer at the educational platform MODEISME;

Sviatoslav Berdinskykh, PhD, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Design, University of Economics and Law “KROK”, and others.

The guarantor of the first (bachelor’s) level of higher education program “Fashion Design”, Professor Kalyna Pashkevych, introduced the stakeholders to the educational and professional program, main objectives, educational components (ECs) that contribute to the formation of general and professional competencies, as well as contribute to the achievement of program learning outcomes.

The guarantor of the second (master’s) level program “Costume Design”, associate professor Olena Herasymenko told about the main ECs of the educational program, the structural and logical scheme, the distribution of results of education by disciplines.

During the discussion of the educational programs, Angela Skripchenko drew attention to the importance of expanding students’ competencies in the field of business and the ability to possess entrepreneurial skills for design activities.

Designer Oleksii Kraievsky emphasized the importance of students acquiring skills in garment shaping and modeling, as well as the ability to design clothing collections in line with contemporary fashion trends. He noted that these competencies are supported by several educational components of the program. Additionally, he proposed including topics related to accessory and jewelry design within the ECs.

Colleagues shared their own experience of training designers in higher education institutions of Ukraine and generally praised the content of the educational programs of the Department of AFD, as well as provided suggestions for their improvement. Thus, Professor Natalia Skliarenko advised to strengthen the scientific component in the training of bachelor's degree students, for example, in the discipline “Integrated Design”.

During the event, members of the working groups involved in the development of the EP, along with academic staff and students from the Department of Art and Fashion Design, presented their proposals and reviewed stakeholder feedback regarding the educational components of the EP. They also discussed the need to deepen the study of certain topics to enhance the quality of training. Students from group BDo-22, Daria Andrienko and Daria Kryvulska, proposed placing greater emphasis on the history of costume within the “History of Art and Design” course.

As a result of the meeting, a number of proposals from stakeholders to improve the educational and professional programs were agreed upon and will be taken into account.
