MEETING OF THE STUDENT SCIENTIFIC CLUB "POLYMER TECHNOLOGIES" FINAL SESSION FOR THE 2024/2025 ACADEMIC YEAR TOPIC: FEATURES OF PRODUCING POLYOLEFIN-BASED TUBULAR FILMS – FROM THEORY TO PRACTICE

In May 2025, another meeting of the student scientific club “Polymer Technologies” took place. The club includes students of the second (master’s) level of higher education enrolled in the educational and professional program “Chemical Technologies of Polymer and Composite Materials Processing,” specialty 161 “Chemical Technologies and Engineering.”

The topic of the meeting focused on the technological features of producing tubular films based on polyolefins – low-density and high-density polyethylene, as well as polypropylene. Under the guidance of Professor Bohdan Savchenko, students reviewed the full cycle of tubular film production: from raw material selection to the formation of three-layer structures by the blown co-extrusion method.

Special attention was paid to:

  • the influence of physicochemical properties of polymers on the film formation process;
  • selection of temperature and pressure parameters;
  • achieving the required mechanical strength, barrier properties, and transparency of the films;
  • environmental safety and recycling possibilities for polyolefin-based packaging.

Participants were presented with real experimental film samples, manufactured during industrial training on modern extrusion equipment. Attendees had the opportunity to compare films with different formulations and discuss their advantages and disadvantages depending on the area of application.

The meeting was held in an interactive discussion format, during which students demonstrated their knowledge in materials science, polymer processing technologies, and film systems engineering. The discussion of the results served as a good example of the synergy between theoretical preparation and acquired practical skills.

Participation in the club's activities contributes to the development of research skills, deepening of professional competencies, and the formation of engineering thinking among future specialists in the field of chemical polymer technology.
