OPEN DAY AT THE INSTITUTE FOR PROBLEMS OF MATERIALS SCIENCE NASU FOR CHEMISTRY STUDENTS

On May 21, 2025, students of the Department of Chemical Technologies and Resource Saving, KNUTD, together with Associate Professor of the Department of Chemical Technologies and Resource Saving Iryna MAKEIEVA, visited Frantsevich Institute for Problems of Materials Science NASU, which held the Open Day.

Within the framework of the course “Polymer Nanotechnology”, a visit to the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Technology of Nanostructured Ceramics and Nanocomposites was especially useful for master students.

Dr. Serhiy IVANCHENKO focused on multicomponent materials consisting of a plastic polymer matrix and various types of nanofillers. In the laboratory of electron probe microanalysis, Dr. Mykola DANYLENKO demonstrated the operation of scientific instruments from JEOL (Japan). The ultra-high-resolution scanning transmission electron microscope JEM-2100F enables imaging at up to 1,500,000× magnification in TEM mode and up to 150,000,000× magnification in STEM mode.

The development of synthetic substitutes based on substances closely resembling the mineral component of bone tissue is being conducted in the Laboratory of Biomaterials for Bone Tissue Engineering. Dr. Natalia ULYANCHICH informed the students about research focused on enhancing the properties of bioactive ceramics based on calcium phosphates – materials that are analogous to the mineral component of bone – and their introduction into clinical practice.

At the Department of Applied Mathematics and Computational Experiments in Materials Science, students were introduced to various models used to study the behavior of new materials during technological processes such as production, processing, and operation. In the Laboratory of Mechanical Testing of Materials and Structural Elements, students learned about methods for testing materials under tension, compression, bending, and torsion across a wide temperature range.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our colleagues for the meaningful and productive discussion and express our hope for continued cooperation in the future.
