CREATIVE MASTER CLASS “THE ART OF ECO-WEAVING FROM PAPER STRAWS” AS PART OF TEXTILE AND LIGHT INDUSTRY WEEK

On May 21, 2025, as part of the Textile and Light Industry Week, the Faculty of Arts and Fashion hosted a creative event – a master class for schoolchildren and students of KNUTD “The Art of Eco-Weaving from Paper Straws”, organized by the Department of Fashion Technology. The event was organized by Antonina Babych, PhD, Associate Professor of the Department of Fashion Technology, Head of the Scientific Club “Scientific Developments in the Design and Manufacture of Fashion Industry Products” and Polina Bilous, 4th year student, Group BIMd-21, majoring in “Fashion Industry”. The master class was attended by future entrants, currently students of the ZZSO of Kyiv – Mykola Polonskyi, Kostiantyn Polonskyi, Diana Komunitska, Yana Chornoivanenko, students of the specialty G15 “Light Industry Technologies” from Group BSHMK-24, and other higher education students.

Olha Haranina, Head of the Department of Fashion Technology, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, introduced the students to the laboratories of the Department of Fashion Technology and its creative work in the form of student developments of clothing, footwear and accessories, and warmly invited them to join the master class.

The most interesting part of the event for the participants was a master class on making a decorative toy. During its creation, the participants had the opportunity to learn about the peculiarities of working with paper straws, as weaving is one of the oldest forms of art of our ancestors, which unites cultures and traditions. By making a decorative toy with their own hands from natural materials, the workshop participants invested their energy, positive thoughts and creative ideas into it. The fascinating master class made an unforgettable impression, because the Ukrainian folk wicker toy made of paper straws “Kozlyk” is the embodiment of goodness and positive.

Antonina Babych and Polina Bilous created a special positive meditation atmosphere for the participants of the event. Vivid emotions, mastery of new skills and knowledge, joyful noise – everything was aimed at developing the creative potential of young people.

We thank all the participants for plunging into the magical world of creating a handmade decorative toy and getting inspired by new knowledge!
