On 21 May 2025, Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design hosted a professional seminar “My Career Path” within the framework of the Textile and Consumer Industry Week, organised and conducted by graduates and students of the Faculty of Arts and Fashion with experience in the fashion industry.

The seminar has become a platform for the exchange of valuable experience and dialogue between higher education students majoring in G15 “Light Industry Technologies” The speakers, students and graduates of the Department of Fashion and Style and the Department of Fashion Technology, shared their stories, talked about the challenges they faced and the lessons they learnt on the way to professional growth. The event was moderated by Tetiana Dzykovych, Associate Professor of the Department of Fashion Technology, PhD in Engineering, Associate Professor.

The seminar was opened by Kateryna Kokhan, a student of Group BSHMK1-22 who works at KOR APAREL. The company is a leading Ukrainian manufacturer of tactical and military clothing, as well as ammunition for law enforcement agencies and civilian users. The company produces military clothing and accessories. Kateryna works in the Technical Control Department (TCD) and holds the position of Head of the TCD Department. The profession requires professional knowledge and skills in the production of clothing and accessories for the military, communication with the sewing, experimental, cutting shops, as well as with the dispatch manager and production director.

The next speaker was Anastasiia Shovkova, a student of Group BIM1-22, assistant technologist of sewing production at the “Factory KASS”. “Factory KASS” is engaged in the production of women's and men's clothing and accessories to order, producing clothing and accessories for modern Ukrainian brands in units and batches. Anastasiia has also recently started working as a cutter. The student said that the main part of the company is the experimental workshop, where products are designed, namely, the idea is discussed, patterns are developed and samples are sewn. Several designers, technologists, a team of seamstresses and other team members work in the production facility.

Hanna Hudyma is doing a master’s course in “Light Industry Technologies”. She told us how she started, about her move and her experience. At first, Hanna worked at the Galina Onishchuk Studio, a studio that develops collections for various brands. Her next job was at the global brand Frolov. During her work, Anna sewed for many famous personalities, such as wedding dresses and seasonal collections. She said that she was very interested in working on customised clothing. The student noted that official employment, paid holidays and sick leave, an 8-hour working day and an hour of lunch are all necessary for work, as well as new modern equipment, good lighting, spacious places, and a friendly team that will always help.

The next speaker, a student of Group BShMK-22, Maria Kindrat, spoke about the Ukrainian menswear brand Pokode. The brand was founded in 2019, works in the street-weat direction, and creates technologically advanced clothing in which every detail has its own functionality. Maria works as a designer's assistant, her duties include modelling some basic designs of models, sewing mock-ups, samples, some knots from the material of the future product or the entire product, grading patterns into sizes according to the size chart. The brand releases spring-summer and autumn-winter collections every year, as well as intermediate themed items, and is always experimenting with designs and materials. Each item is developed in the brand’s experimental workshop, which you can see when you visit the showroom, as everything is located in one room.

Marina Yushchenko, a student of Group BS-22, shared information about the Ukrainian clothing brand Cherry Wave. The most interesting thing is that the brand’s non-standard style is techno-street, which is distinguished by bold shapes, details and creative solutions. The range of products includes trousers, long johns, sweatshirts, coats and shirts, and other designer clothing. Marina works as a seamstress and has the opportunity to develop as a designer.

Аnastasia Haichuk, a student of Group BS-21, presented the KSENIASHNAIDER clothing brand. The main assortment includes denim items recycled from old materials, which is environmentally friendly and relevant in our time. The created product ultimately surpasses the original object in its functional and aesthetic characteristics. The objectives of recycling are to draw public attention to environmental issues, reduce the amount of waste and foster a culture of responsible consumption. The company buys jeans, then washes them, cuts them, irons them and then cuts them into garments.

The next speaker, Oleksandr Makarenko, a graduate of the Department of Fashion Technology, created a refined and sophisticated atmosphere of the event by presenting Ariamo, a company that designs and manufactures wedding and evening dresses, suits, overalls, and accessories. The company works with many countries of the world, such as England, France, Germany, the USA, China, and others, and has its own salon in Kyiv. Personally, Oleksandr is engaged in grading patterns for products for special occasions.

The seminar was held in an interactive format, encouraging active audience participation. Students had the opportunity to ask speakers questions about finding internships and employment, developing essential skills and competencies, and building professional networks. This created an atmosphere of collaboration and knowledge sharing — a key factor for a successful career in any industry, especially one as competitive as fashion. The event proved to be a valuable source of insight into real opportunities and prospects for professional growth.

We wish you new achievements, career growth and prosperity!
