On May 22, 2025, the installation of a solar photovoltaic power plant was completed in Educational Building No. 5 of Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design (KNUTD), based on the Educational and Scientific Laboratory "Center of Energy Efficiency" of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies. This project was implemented with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine based on the results of the implementation of the tasks of the perspective plan for the development of the scientific direction "Technical Sciences" in KNUTD according to the priority thematic area "Modeling of hybrid energy supply systems for critical infrastructure facilities of the agro-industrial complex to ensure energy independence and energy efficiency in 2024-2025". Leading scientists from the faculty were involved in implementing the tasks of the prospective plan, including Prof. Olexandr Shaviolkin, Prof. Iryna Shvedchykova, as well as a postgraduate student of the Department of Computer Engineering and Electromechanics, Yurii Нaman.
The installation and connection of the solar power plant was carried out by the university's efforts of scientists and staff. The installation of five photovoltaic panels with a total power of 2925 W on the end wall of the Educational Building No. 5 was carried out with the involvement of specialists of the service of the Chief Power Engineer Oleksandr Voitovych, under the leadership of the Vice-Rector for Learning and Productional Issues and Development Volodymyr Bobrovnyk. The inverter setup was carried out by the Department of Computer Engineering and Electromechanics' postgraduate student Yurii Haman to connect photovoltaic modules to the inverter and the battery pack.
A solar power plant is designed, first of all, to conduct experimental research on the performance of scientific tasks. Launching the solar power plant will also save money by reducing energy consumption from the grid using equipment and devices installed in the "Center of Energy Efficiency" of KNUTD and adjacent rooms.
