PRACTICE OF INTERNATIONAL POLITICAL COMMUNICATION

Maksym Maroko, a first-year student majoring in 052 Political Science (educational program: Political Science and Public Communication) at the Department of Private and Public Law, Institute of Law and Modern Technologies, participated in a pre-election event of Karol Nawrocki, a candidate for the Presidency of the Republic of Poland.

The meeting took place in February 2025 in the city of Augustów, Podlaskie Voivodeship, Republic of Poland. This region was part of Nawrocki’s campaign tour focused on engaging with communities in areas with a high concentration of the Ukrainian diaspora.

The event was held during the active phase of the candidate’s election campaign, which eventually led to his victory in the presidential elections.

The student’s participation in the political event was carried out as part of academic practice under the supervision of PhD in Law, Associate Professor of the Department of Private and Public Law, Inha Kypych.

Together with the internship supervisor, the future political scientist conducted a detailed analysis of Karol Nawrocki’s biography, public speeches, political views, and key policy positions. Based on this analysis, a thematic set of questions was prepared, covering core aspects of Poland’s foreign policy, including: the candidate’s stance on migration challenges; his vision for bilateral Ukrainian-Polish relations; approaches to historical memory as a factor in diplomatic relations; and his assessment of Poland’s prospective involvement in European and transatlantic security structures.

During the meeting, Karol Nawrocki responded to the questions posed. The main message of his answers, in the context of the election campaign, was the articulation of key foreign policy priorities he intended to implement in the event of his victory.

Karol Nawrocki emphasized the need to strengthen national sovereignty, assert Poland’s regional leadership, and protect its strategic interests within the European and transatlantic space.

The outcomes of the meeting were presented at the April session of the student research group “Discussion” (supervised by PhD in Public Administration, Associate Professor of the Department of Private and Public Law, Nataliia Fastovets). The session was held within the framework of the topic “Political Communication and Media.”

Students analyzed the characteristics of the candidate’s public address, the impact of historical rhetoric on the electorate, and the response of both Polish and Ukrainian media spheres. They also assessed the candidate’s positions on key issues for Ukraine — humanitarian support, security cooperation, and historical dialogue — which shape the prospects for future bilateral relations.

Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design continues to develop a practice-oriented education strategy, in which classroom knowledge is reinforced by real-life practical cases.
